Job summary

Pomerleau is seeking a Health & Safety Coordinator to lead on-site H&S across large-scale building and infrastructure projects in Ontario. You will champion COR standards, OH&S regulations, and incident investigations, ensuring a culture of proactive safety.

You will mentor teams, track metrics, support COR maintenance, and collaborate with the Regional H&S Manager on risk controls and training.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on Health & Safety experience in the construction industry.
  • Educational background in Occupational H&S, risk management or direct industry experience.
  • Previous experience with COR and IHSA.
  • People management and relationship skills.
  • Proven experience using computer programs to track and monitor H&S.

Responsibilities

  • Be the pioneer for site health and safety where the project teams look to you for guidance and compliance becomes second nature.
  • Lead project-specific standards and promote OH&S Acts, Regulations and Codes with teammates and trade partners.
  • Lead kickoff meetings, craft plans, identify hazards, and support project closeouts and celebrations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections on active jobsites.
  • Oversee incident investigations and communicate findings to the Regional H&S Manager.
  • Build a culture of accident prevention and safety foresight across the project.
  • Act as first responder in emergencies and implement safety best practices.

As a Health & Safety Coordinator working in the Building Operations at Pomerleau Construction, your mission is clear: safeguarding lives, one protocol at a time. Working on large-scale building and infrastructure projects – ranging from $1.5 million to upwards of $1 billion – you will ensure that health and safety on our job sites and office spaces isn't simply just a policy, it’s a way of life. The Arctic Over-the-Horizon Radar Project (A-OTHR) is a major Canadian infrastructure and defence initiative that will play a vital role in strengthening the country's security and surveillance capabilities for generations to come. As a key partner on this project, Pomerleau is helping deliver innovative infrastructure through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) model alongside industry-leading organizations. Together, the team is designing and building the facilities that will support one of the most advanced radar systems in North America. This is a rare opportunity to join a project of national significance, where your work will contribute to a lasting legacy of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.

What You Will Do
  • Be the pioneer for site health and safety where the project teams look to you for guidance and compliance becomes second nature.
  • You are the leader as it relates to project specific standards, continuously promoting Pomerleau’s H&S standards, OH&S Acts, Regulations and Codes with your teammates and trade partners.
  • You are a key player from day one of project kickoffs; crafting plans, leading meetings, and spotting potential hazards through to project closeouts and team celebrations. You are a key member of the projects from start to finish.
  • Boots on the ground is your thing, getting active out on the job sites to conduct regular site inspections.
  • Lead the incident investigation processes for your project. Dissecting high-risk elements is what you do best, sharing the information with your Regional H&S Manager.
  • Prevention isn't just a program; it’s your way of life. You are the specialist when it comes to building an environment with a strong accident prevention foresight.
  • Be the first responder when an emergency strikes, orchestrating safety best practices when the unexpected strikes.
  • Share your passion for training, mentoring, and coaching your team on H&S best practices.
  • You compile statistics like no other, identifying patterns and paving the way for proactive improvements.
  • You will support with the upkeep of Pomerleau’s COR Standards in meticulously ensuring all COR elements are met and maintained on your job sites.
This Role Could Be For You If You Have
  • 5+ years of hands-on Health & Safety experience in the construction industry.
  • An educational background in Occupational H&S, risk management or direct industry experience.
  • Previous experience or familiarity with Certification of Recognition (COR) and Safety Group (IHSA).
  • People management and relationship skills like no other.
  • Proven experience working with computer programs to track and monitor your project’s H&S.
