Summer Program Assistant to support the delivery of WAS summer programs and lessons.
Responsibilities
The Whistler Summer Program Assistant plays an integral role in the summer operations of Whistler Adaptive Sports. In the summer, we offer hiking, mountain biking (2 & 3 wheel), paddle sports (canoeing, SUP, and kayaking), yoga, and more to people with cognitive and physical disabilities and neurodiversity. The Summer Program staff will help our coaches assess students, determine adaptive equipment needs, set goals and plan lessons, lead or assist activities, document progress, maintain records, and assist our coaches in making recommendations for future programming. They will also assist with general administration, marketing, communications, and fundraising as needed. This position reports to the Whistler Head Coach.
Qualifications
· Ability to instruct individuals in group-based outdoor sport and recreation activities.
· Knowledge/experience in a variety of activities including hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, SUP, ability to swim, physical literacy, and adaptive sports. A willingness to learn these sports is essential if no previous experience exists in some of them.
· Some knowledge of various physical disabilities and neurological diversities is an asset.
· Preference given to those currently certified in CPR and First Aid (training will be provided if not current).
· Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident between ages 15 and 30, as the position is funded through a Canada Summer Jobs grant.
· Class 5 driving license.
