Communications Security Establishment invites students to join the Data Science team for Summer 2027. You will work on real problems using machine learning to support Government of Canada intelligence and cyber missions.

Open to Canadian citizens, this onsite coop in Ottawa offers mentorship, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and exposure to practical and research-oriented data science projects within a secure environment.

Qualifications

• You must be registered as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th year or full-time graduate student in a recognized Canadian program related to the position.
• Programs must be recognized in Canada and you must provide a transcript for the most recent term.
• Demonstrated interest in data science and problem solving is expected.

Students will be mentored by and working alongside our Data Scientists at CSE.Data science teams at CSE range from more operational to more research based, and we aim to match students with teams that match their interests and skills.You can expect that during your coop term, you will:

• Use machine learning to solve bulk data problems to support Government of Canada Intelligence and Cyber Defense requirements
• Work on multidisciplinary teams with various backgrounds in fields such as
  • mathematicians/statisticians
  • subject-matter experts in the business problems
  • computer scientists
  • Engage clients from day 1 that the data science problem begins

A valid Enhanced Reliability Status (ERS) or an Enhanced Top Secret (ETS) security clearance is a condition of employment that must be met before an offer can be made.

Education

You must be registered as a 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th year or full-time graduate student in a recognized post-secondary program in Canada in a field related to the position, such as (but not limited to): Computer Science, Engineering (e.g. Computer, Software, Electrical) with a strong math/statistics background, Mathematics/Statistics with programming courses.

Note: The educational program must be recognized in Canada, and you must be able to provide a transcript from your most recent term. Students graduating prior to, or during, the work term are not eligible to apply.

The following technical, behavioural and leadership competencies will be assessed at a later date. You do not need to include information about them in your application.
