With 17 schools serving diverse rural and urban communities, substitute teachers help ensure students continue to learn when regular teachers are away, across elementary, secondary, CTS, French Immersion, the arts, and physical education.

Qualifications

  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different classroom environments.
  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
  • Commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming, and supportive learning environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Clear Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check, completed within the past 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuity of learning and positive classroom environments when regular teachers are absent.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and professionalism across a variety of grade levels, subjects, and school settings.
  • Build positive relationships quickly with students and school staff.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff regarding student learning, behaviour, and daily activities.

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on students' lives while enjoying the flexibility to choose when and where you work? Sturgeon Public Schools is seeking enthusiastic, adaptable, and student-focused Substitute Teachers to join our team across a wide range of grade levels and subject areas.

With 17 schools serving diverse rural and urban communities throughout Sturgeon County, including two high schools, substitute teachers play a vital role in ensuring students continue to learn, grow, and thrive when their regular teacher is away. Whether your passion is elementary education, secondary academics, Career and Technology Studies (CTS), French Immersion, the arts, or physical education, we invite you to bring your talents to our classrooms.

Our schools are located throughout Sturgeon County, about a 30 minute drive north of the cities of Edmonton and St. Albert. Additionally, there is no public bus service to the majority of our schools, applicants are strongly encouraged to have reliable transportation, and a valid driver's license.

We're especially looking for substitutes in:
  • French Immersion (Elementary)
  • Band / Music
  • CTS: Welding, Construction, Mechanics, Foods, Fashions, Cosmetology
  • Physical Education
  • Mathematics
  • All core subject areas

Substitute teachers play an essential role in maintaining continuity of learning and supporting positive classroom environments when regular teachers are absent. Through their flexibility, professionalism, and ability to quickly build relationships with students, substitute teachers help ensure that learning continues with minimal disruption. What You Bring
