Weekly Work Schedule: Varies – this is an on-call position for coverage

Pay Grade: The annual salary range is $70,437 - $112,872 (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications, experience, and the placement criteria of Article 14 of the NICFA Collective agreement.

Position Summary: Applications are invited from qualified individuals for substitute, on-call instruction in the Instrumentation and Electrical Automation Technician Diploma program at North Island College. The instructional assignment involves teaching in one or more of the following courses at the Campbell River campus. PLEASE IDENTIFY at the time of applying what of the following courses you are interested in instructing.

The teaching faculty of North Island College are responsible for implementing the College’s vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. Faculty use organizational skills, inter-personal skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. In addition, they have a responsibility to serve as role models for students and colleagues.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Duties:
    • To plan and prepare learning materials for instructional environments.
    • To use various approaches and materials to address different learning needs.
    • To teach in assigned subject areas and include all required subject matter in courses.
    • To direct student learning in a positive and supportive environment.
    • To be available to students during scheduled office hours and classroom hours.
    • To communicate learning outcomes and evaluation methods clearly.
    • To design and conduct evaluations of students and keep them informed of their progress.
    • To submit grades in a timely manner and maintain records of student achievement.
  2. Typical Professional Duties:
    • To work within College educational policies.
    • To contribute to the development of the Education and Strategic plans.
    • To advise on inventory needs and enrollment management strategies.
    • To maintain continuous professional development of competencies.
    • To participate in College committees and activities.
    • To undertake other related responsibilities as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

  • Certification as a Technologist in a related field is preferred.
  • Successful experience instructing adults at a post-secondary level; a minimum of three years is preferred.
  • Completion of the Provincial Instructors Diploma program is preferred; candidates currently undertaking this training may be considered.

Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of or experience teaching the specific BC provincial curriculum of your trade.
  • Familiarity with several IA-related systems, e.g., analog and digital circuit design, microprocessor applications.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with learning technologies and digital tools.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work individually and cooperatively in a team environment.
