Job summary

Rexel is seeking a Substation High Voltage Electrical Technician for our Toronto location near Pearson International Airport. The role covers hands-on field activities and in-house support within the Power Technical Services department, focusing on high voltage systems in an industrial setting.

The candidate will perform infrared scanning, substation maintenance, system studies, and project installation. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution, regulatory standards, and AutoCAD/ETAP

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform high voltage field work including substation maintenance and equipment installation.

  • Quote preparation and review of reports and charges.
  • Assist with transformer oil analysis and related technical comments.
  • Ensure work complies with safety regulations and codes.
  • Lead project studies and bid preparation for Power Technical Services.
  • Perform infrared thermography on plant electrical equipment.

LTL has progressively expanded over the years to include a broad spectrum of recognized electrical, utility and industrial products, equipment and services.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Substation High Voltage Electrical Technician to join our team at our Toronto location, near Toronto Pearson International Airport, working in our growing electrical department.

The successful candidate will be responsible for taking both an inside and hands-on field role in our Power Technical Services department covering all facets of the high voltage electrical contracting business within the industrial sector.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Extensive high voltage electrical field work including infrared scanning, substation maintenance, substation and transformer project installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, rationalization and implementation of system and equipment optimization measures, ownership of work from planning, implementation, and reporting to job closure.
  • High Voltage Studies: Provide technical services to assemble, complete and report on electrical systems studies (e.g., coordination, power quality, ground grids, arc flash).
  • Technical Support: Provide electrical technical support and problem-solving as well as on-site and in-house troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • AutoCAD: Provide and use electrical/mechanical drawings as required for substation maintenance and/or electrical construction installations.
  • Reports: Review and complete reports, review work performed by others, review sales charges to coincide with report.
  • Oil Analysis: Provide technical assistance and comments on transformer oil results.
  • Complete understanding and proven proficiency for quoting and job estimation.
  • Support and review technical inquiries of customers to make recommendations.
  • Provide technical assistance to enable accurate quotes to customers from account managers for all work to be performed by the Power Technical Services department.
  • Perform all work within health and safety regulations and applicable regulatory codes.
  • Drive/lead studies, project designing, and technical bid preparation for projects.
  • Conduct infrared thermography/scanning of plant electrical equipment and troubleshooting.
  • Tests and commissions medium voltage and low voltage equipment.
Qualifications

1. Technical/Professional Competencies:

  • Complete knowledge and superior working experience with electrical power distribution systems.
  • Exemplary understanding of industry and regulatory standards and design criteria.
  • Lead and support team members on technical and job-related matters.
  • Strong computer skills - AutoCAD, ETAP, MS Office.
  • Valid InfraRed Level 1 certificate (asset to have).
  • Knowledge of ESA regulations.

2. Non-Technical Competencies

  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, communications, leadership, problem-solving, and personal hands-on tools skills
  • Analytical, troubleshooting skills
  • Willingness to travel periodically
  • Minimum Level 1 Infrared Thermography Certification (a benefit)

3.Education and Experience

  • Electrical P. Eng. or EIT certification
  • 309A License
  • Trades certificate(s) with related experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years work experience.
Additional Information

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is CAD 100000-110000. Final compensation within this range will be determined by factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. This range does not include variable pay or other components of Rexel’s total rewards package.
