The salary range for this position is CAD $42.27/Hr. - CAD $52.81/Hr.

Come work as a Substance Use Outreach Clinician with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)!

Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Substance Use Outreach Clinician to join the Aftercare Clinicians team at Heiltsuk Hospital in Bella Bella, BC. This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health. As a Substance Use Outreach Clinician with VCH you will:

  • Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide a range of mental health and substance use supports.
  • Use an outreach model that is strengths-based and inclusive of harm reduction approaches to support client goals including detox/substance use stabilization, treatment and recovery programming.
  • Provide harm reduction education, group facilitation, and case management toward treatment initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and community resources to facilitate clients’ wellness journeys.
  • Participate in committees and meetings, engage in ongoing team planning, development, and quality improvement activities.
  • Provide direct clinical services in the form of immediate assessment, intervention, referral, and support to clients in urgent situations.
  • Act as client advocate, support recovery goals, and deliver evidence-based treatment/interventions.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in a health science discipline from a recognized program.
  • Two (2) years’ recent experience in community-based or Indigenous-led organizations working with individuals with substance use and mental health presentations.
  • Valid B.C. driver's license.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as Indigenous including First Nations, Inuit, and/or Metis.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of substance-use recovery services in the community.
  • Knowledge of health inequities and discrimination faced by designated client populations.
  • Knowledge of the principles of harm reduction in a health care setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and service providers.
  • Ability to manage aggressive and suicidal behavior.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
