Job summary

The University of Guelph's Student Wellness Services seeks a Student Wellness Educator to develop evidence-based programs addressing health behaviours among students, emphasizing substance use and sexual health.

Working with a multidisciplinary team, you will recruit and supervise Peer Health Educators, design promotions, and meet one-on-one with students seeking support, including evenings and some weekends.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate Degree with experience in Health Education and Wellness with young adults. A Master's degree in Public Health is preferred.
  • Three years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating workshops, presentations, marketing, and other learning-oriented programming for students on themes related to health, well-being and diversity.
  • Knowledge of experiential learning pedagogy, and the development of learning outcomes.
  • An understanding of how IEDI intersects with health-related issues.
  • An understanding of health-related issues in a post-secondary setting, including: substance use, mental health, healthy relationships, sexual health and sexual gender-based violence.
  • Experience with recruiting, training, and coaching students in a peer-to-peer service delivery environment.
  • An understanding of student culture and development.
  • Ability to build strong collaborative relationships with stakeholders in a variety of departments/units across a large and decentralized organization.
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong, evidence-based programs that improve health-related behaviours among students within a harm-reduction and social justice framework.
  • Design, evaluate and make recommendations for improvement to on-going educational programs addressing health and wellness issues.
  • Hold one-on-one meetings with students seeking health and wellness support, providing materials and advice.
  • Recruit, train and supervise Peer Health Educators, student volunteers, and practicum students.
  • Develop marketing and promotional strategies for Wellness programs.
