Job summary

Aecon Group Inc. is offering a Student Estimator role in Vancouver to gain hands-on experience supporting large-scale infrastructure bids. You will work with senior estimators, project managers, and operations.

This paid role provides exposure to bid submissions and the full project lifecycle from pre-construction through execution. You will develop practical estimating skills, contribute to competitive submissions, and learn how design‑bid‑build and design‑build projects are estimated.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a diploma or degree program in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
• Strong interest in construction estimating, infrastructure projects, and pre-construction services.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, InEight, Hard Dollar, or other estimating software is considered an asset.
• Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents is considered an asset.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driver's abstract is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Work alongside Senior Estimators, Estimating Managers, and Estimating Directors to support the development of competitive bids and project pursuit strategies.
• Gain exposure to a diverse portfolio of major infrastructure pursuits, including bridges, tunnels, highways, and transit systems.
• Support the preparation of estimates for a variety of contract delivery models, including Design‑Bid‑Build and Design‑Build projects.
• Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Update estimating software with quantities, pricing information, and subcontractor quotations.
• Assist with the solicitation of subcontractor and supplier pricing for bid submissions.
• Analyze and compare subcontractor and vendor quotations to support bid evaluations and procurement strategies.
• Participate in the development of estimate summaries and cost build‑ups using estimating software, including Hard Dollar.
• Assist estimating teams with the development of construction means, methods, and execution strategies.
• Support design‑build pursuits by collaborating with engineering and design teams throughout the proposal development process.
• Prepare and validate portions of detailed project estimates under the guidance of experienced estimators.
• Participate in tender closings and proposal submission activities.
• Collaborate with joint venture partners and external stakeholders to support estimate development on large‑scale pursuits.
• Assist with maintaining historical cost databases, bid documentation, and estimating records.
• Participate in bid review meetings and contribute to risk and opportunity discussions.
• Gain exposure to pre‑construction planning, project controls, commercial strategy, and project execution considerations.

The expected pay range for this role is $23.00 - $25.00 per hour, with eligibility for overtime.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
