Job summary

Aecon Concessions in Cambridge, Ontario is seeking a Junior Estimator to generate accurate cost estimates for assigned projects and deliver organized budgets and schedules. You will work with subcontractors and operations to ensure bids meet scope and deadlines.

Responsibilities include multi-source take-offs, price formation, and post-bid analysis, with a focus on data integrity, teamwork, and process compliance. Experience with 3D models and job-cost fundamentals is valued.

Qualifications

• Prior estimating or operational experience is an asset.
• Red Seal Certification is an asset.
• Experience navigating and retrieving data from 3D models is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Analyze documents, scope of works, specifications, proposal requirements, and addendums in preparation for pricing.
• Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings and related models.
• Obtain and analyze third-party pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to include in estimates.
• Formulate all costs for tender submissions: labour, equipment, material, freight, rentals, and subcontractors.
• Be accountable for the accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
• Assist with prequalification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs as required.
• Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
• Review project sites and construction conditions prior to price preparation.
• Perform post-bid and post-project analysis and share learnings.
• Collect data and reports on business metrics and KPIs.
• Maintain bid documentation and estimates records; manage correspondence.
• Provide estimating support to field and operational staff as required.
• Drive estimating process compliance and consistency.
• Incorporate Aecon risk management policies and procedures.
• Foster relationships with key subcontractors as main contact.

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Junior Estimator will be responsible for the generation of accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects. The Estimator will deliver properly organized estimates, budgets and schedules, while managing Aecon’s risk.

What You'll Do Here:

• Analyze documents, scope of works, specifications, proposal requirements, and addendums in preparation for pricing.
• Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings, plot plans, P&IDs, 3D models, and bills of quantities.
• Obtain, analyze, validate to scope of work, and recommend third-party pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to incorporate into estimates.
• Formulate all costs for tender submission, including labour, equipment, material, freight, consumables, rentals, and subcontractors.
• Be accountable for the accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
• Assist with prequalification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs as required.
• Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
• Review project sites and construction conditions prior to price preparation, as required.
• Perform post-bid and post-project analysis and ensure associated learning and communication takes place.
• Collect data and reports on established business metrics and key performance indicators.
• Comply with documentation management systems by filing bid documentation and estimating records and managing correspondence for active and completed estimates.
• Provide estimating support to field and operational staff on current projects, as required.
• Drive estimating process and procedure compliance and consistency.
• Incorporate and comply with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
• Drive positive relationships and serve as the main contact with key subcontractors.
• Maintain estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up to date.

The expected pay range for this role is $60,000 - $80,000 per year.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
