Job summary

Ledcor in Whitby, Ontario, is seeking a Structures Manager with 8+ years of experience on major bridge projects for a rail development. You will develop and execute construction plans, schedules and budgets while ensuring safety, quality and environmental standards are met on a demanding program.

You will lead multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with the designer and client, review designs and technical reports, and deliver progress updates and reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience with a major contractor on large heavy civil and bridges projects.
  • Experience with construction of new bridges (Rail and Road bridges).
  • Experience in working within Railway corridors and understanding of rail corridor requirements and rail corridor work plan requirements.
  • Experience with in-water works including CLOCA requirements and planning construction activities within creeks or watercourses.
  • Working knowledge of MTO and Ontario municipalities road construction standards and processes and knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications.
  • Demonstrated abilities in the management and leadership of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Experience successfully planning and executing projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Experience working with programs including Excel, MS Projects, Word, Power Point and Bluebeam.
  • Excellent technical, communication, organizational, managerial and planning skills.
  • Excellent people and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Review project contractual documents to understand requirements, schedule, budget, safety, quality and environmental needs.
  • Liaise and coordinate with designer, technical department and client on technical aspects.

  • Develop an execution plan outlining construction staging, work plans, materials and subcontracting.
  • Provide technical assistance and recommend construction methods and equipment.
  • Manage quantity take offs, bill of quantities, estimating and scope development for structural and civil work.
  • Lead project activities to ensure delivery aligns with designs, budgets and schedules.
  • Develop and manage client relationships, progress reports, and meetings.
  • Monitor onsite activities, quality, productivity, progress and safety; enforce procedures.
  • Anticipate roadblocks and develop solutions to prevent issues; resolve problems during execution.
  • Implement and monitor safety programs.
  • Manage RFIs and issue field instructions.
  • Prepare progress reports.

We are hiring a Structures Manager with 8+ years of experience working on construction projects with a focus on bridges on our rail project. You will develop and execute project plans and schedules, ensuring the highest safety and quality standards are met. You have a proven track record for meetings, budgets, schedules, and scope for a demanding set of projects and clients.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Review project contractual documents to gain an understanding of the project requirements (design, specifications, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and environmental requirements) necessary to complete the project within the required time frame
  • Liaise and coordinate with the designer, technical department and client in all technical aspects
  • Review and understand project design, technical reports and background information
  • Develop an execution plan that outlines construction staging and sequence, construction workplans, materials, equipment, subcontracting, and other services that are necessary to deliver the project on time and within budget
  • Provide technical assistance and recommend construction methods and equipment
  • Manage quantity take offs, bill of quantities, estimating and develop scope of works related to the structural and civil scope.
  • Lead project activities to ensure that the project is executed in accordance with the designs, budgets and schedules; take appropriate action to minimize the impact of deviations
  • Develop and manage client relationship and expectations, progress reports, communication, paperwork, meetings, etc.
  • Monitor and oversee onsite activities, quality, productivity, progress, and safety of employees and subcontractors and ensure implementation of all procedures and work plans
  • Anticipate potential roadblocks and develop solutions to prevent issue from arising; resolve any problems that may arise during project execution
  • Implement and monitor safety programs
  • Manage requests for information and issue field instructions
  • Prepare progress reports
  • Perform other duties as needed

Work Conditions:

  • Site based position in Whitby, Ontario

Compensation

$114,750.00 - $153,000.00

This is the expected base pay range for this role. Individual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, knowledge, skills, education and location.
