Job summary

Ledcor Construction, Inc. is seeking a Field Engineer for a major GO Transit infrastructure project in Whitby, Ontario.

You will coordinate civil construction activities, oversee safety, ensure quality and alignment with drawings, and work with project teams, subcontractors, and consultants. The ideal candidate has 3–6 years of heavy civil experience, a Civil/Construction Eng degree, and proficiency in AutoCAD and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 3 to 6 years of experience on heavy civil, transportation, transit, or infrastructure construction projects.
  • Experience with foundations, piling, reinforced concrete, precast concrete, substructures, earthworks, or related activities; strong understanding of drawings and contract documents.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain company systems, procedures, and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of civil construction activities per drawings, specs, and contract requirements.
  • Review and coordinate technical submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, redlines, and design revisions.
  • Assist with development and execution of construction work packages and identify constraints affecting progress.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify work against drawings, quality standards, and requirements.
  • Support the HSE program through site inspections, safety observations, and meetings.
  • Assist with subcontractor management activities, including tender support and contract administration.
  • Monitor project schedules, milestones, and provide progress updates to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate procurement activities and vendor communications.
  • Support QA/QC processes, inspections, testing, and records management.
  • Assist in management of change orders, contract modifications, and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate field records, daily reports, quantities, and as-built docs.
  • Support project closeout activities including turnover documentation and demobilization.

Description

The Field Engineer will play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of a major GO Transit infrastructure project in Whitby, Ontario. Working closely with project management, construction teams, subcontractors, and consultants, you will help coordinate and oversee civil construction activities, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and quality requirements.


This position is ideal for a motivated engineering professional with experience in heavy civil, transit, or infrastructure construction who is looking to develop their field execution expertise on a large-scale transportation project.



Essential Responsibilities


  • Implement and maintain company systems, procedures, and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Support the planning, coordination, and execution of civil construction activities to ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.

  • Review and coordinate technical documentation, including Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, shop drawings, redlines, and design revisions.

  • Assist with the development and execution of construction work packages and proactively identify and resolve constraints that may impact project progress.

  • Conduct field inspections to verify work is completed in accordance with approved drawings, quality standards, and project requirements.

  • Support the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) program through site inspections, safety observations, hazard assessments, and participation in safety meetings.

  • Assist with subcontractor management activities, including tender support, technical reviews, contract administration, progress tracking, and invoice verification.

  • Monitor project schedules, track key milestones, and provide progress updates to project stakeholders.

  • Coordinate procurement activities, including material requisitions, equipment requirements, delivery tracking, and vendor communications.

  • Support quality control and quality assurance processes, including inspections, testing, deficiency tracking, and records management.

  • Assist in the management of change orders, contract modifications, and project documentation while ensuring compliance with contractual and financial requirements.

  • Maintain accurate field records, daily reports, quantity tracking, and as-built documentation.

  • Support project closeout activities, including turnover documentation, deficiency resolution, and project demobilization.



Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 3 to 6 years of experience on heavy civil, transportation, transit, or infrastructure construction projects.

  • Experience with foundations, piling, reinforced concrete, precast concrete, substructures, earthworks, or related civil construction activities is strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

  • Experience reviewing and coordinating technical submittals and construction documentation.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Experience with AutoCAD or other construction drawing software is considered an asset.

  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality.

  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license and access to reliable transportation are considered strong assets.

  • Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, or weekends as required to support project needs.



Work Conditions


  • Site-based position located in Whitby, Ontario.

  • Primarily field-oriented with regular exposure to active construction environments and varying weather conditions.



Compensation

$90,900.00 - $121,200.00


This is the expected base pay range for this role. Individual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, knowledge, skills, education and location.
