Morskate Manufacturing in Ponoka, AB, is seeking a reliable Structural Steel Field Welder to join our growing field services team. This role involves leaving the shop, traveling to project sites, and sometimes staying in hotels for multi-day assignments.

You will fabricate and install steel structures, read drawings, and use welding processes such as GMAW, GTAW, and SMAW. We offer a stable full-time position, competitive starting wages, overtime opportunities, and benefits after probation.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years welding experience minimum.
• Apprenticeship program or CWB certification an asset.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, procedures and practices.
• Knowledge of materials and strong understanding of metals.
• Must be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate and repair equipment, structures and various types of metal objects using welding processes such as GMAW, GTAW and SMAW.
• Installation and erection of steel, troubleshooting installation and finding solutions.
• Analyze drawings, and sketches to determine measurements, layouts and sequence of welding assignments.
• Examine welds and surfaces to discover flaws to ensure they meet the required standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of company trucks at all times to ensure a professional and safe work environment.
• Take responsibility for the care and proper use of field trucks, tools, equipment, and trailers, including safe storage and transport.
• Perform regular maintenance and basic troubleshooting on welding machines, tools, and equipment to ensure operational readiness and longevity.
• Provide daily updates to the Supervisor or Lead Hand on project progress, site issues, and equipment status to support clear communication and efficient workflow.
• Accurate use of square, levels, angle finder and other measuring tools related to specific area (Metric & Imperial).

Morskate Manufacturing is a family-run structural steel manufacturer located just west of Highway 2 in Ponoka, Alberta. Specializing in structural, agricultural and custom orders, we take pride in the ability to be adaptable and flexible when designing and building orders to meet the customers exact requirements.

We’re expanding our facility by 90,000+ sq. ft. and investing in new technology as we continue to build our team and take on new projects. With this growth comes an exciting opportunity for a Structural Steel Field Welder to join our field services installation team.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys getting out of the shop and working on different projects and job sites.

Travel is required and depending on the location and scope of the project, you may be required to stay out of town in hotel for a few days, or on a rotation, if longer time is required.

• Must be able to grind and finish parts to specification, operate drill press, grinder, power say & other hand tools.

• Perform regular maintenance and basic troubleshooting on welding machines, tools, and equipment

Requirements/Qualifications

• Good with numbers in regard to accurate measurements, checking drawings, and weights
• Must be physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs.
• Able to work independently or as part of a team
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English clearly
• Possess problem solving skills

We offer competitive starting wages between $26 – $40 per hour, with final rates determined by your experience, skill level, and how well you align with the role. We appreciate dedication and commitment, and we conduct thorough performance reviews after three months and annually to acknowledge outstanding work and support employee growth.
