Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Structural Engineer to contribute to design and analysis under supervision on multiple projects. You will assist with design development, calculations, and documentation, interfacing with other disciplines to ensure integration and compliance with codes.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor’s in Structural Engineering with 2–3 years of experience, and seek licensure. This role offers growth in a global design firm with diverse project opportunities across Canada.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering required or nearing completion.
  • Professional licensure is in progress or pursued.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of related experience in structural engineering.

Your Opportunity

As a Structural Engineer your role is to work with direct supervision and general direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a senior engineer/designer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
  • Assists in the development of a design through sketches, Analytical models, drawings, and other visual formats.
  • Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases.
  • Coordinates with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
  • Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to requests for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.
  • Assists with the development of technical specifications & standards.
  • Assists in the evaluation and selection of structural systems and materials.
  • Complete required structural calculations, under the guidance of a senior engineer.
  • Attends project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants.
  • Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating
  • Performs calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
  • Ability to perform on-site design services and field support.
  • Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.
  • Understand and work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
  • Comply with Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field.
  • Execute structural engineering deliverables on multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes (NBC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)
  • Experience with industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, SAP 2000, etc.)
  • Intermediate Experience with Mining / heavy industrial structures is highly valued. This includes structural steel design and reinforced concrete design, for underground structures, substructures and superstructures.
  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Knowledge of mathematical computational tools such as MathCAD and the ability to perform detailed structural calculations within this environment.
  • Intermediate understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Skilled at conducting preliminary research.
  • Sound technical skills, with focus on accurate design calculations and analysis.
  • Strong desire to learn and work in a team environment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to work on multiple jobs/projects at a time.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.
  • Working towards professional licensure
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$78,900.00 - $114,400.00 Annually
Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
