Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. is seeking a Structural Engineer to contribute to design and analysis on multi-disciplinary projects.

You will work under supervision to develop documentation, sketches, calculations, and specifications, coordinating with architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil teams to ensure design intent and code compliance. The role emphasizes on-site support, quality control, and collaborative problem solving within a dynamic project environment.

Qualifications

• Requisite knowledge and application of structural design codes (NBC, CSA, ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.)
• Experience with industry standard structural analysis software suites (STAAD.Pro, SAP 2000, etc.)
• Intermediate Experience with Mining / heavy industrial structures is highly valued.
• Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
• Knowledge of mathematical computational tools such as MathCAD and the ability to perform detailed structural calculations.
• Intermediate understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
• Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
• Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
• Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
• Sound technical skills, with focus on accurate design calculations and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
• Assists in the development of a design through sketches, Analytical models, drawings, and other visual formats.
• Prepares and revises documentation in various project phases.
• Coordinates with other disciplines to ensure compatibility with the design intent.
• Assists in the review of shop drawings and submittals, responds to RFIs, prepares site observation reports, and conducts contract administration duties.
• Assists with development of technical specifications & standards.
• Assists in evaluation and selection of structural systems and materials.
• Completes required structural calculations under supervision.
• Attends project coordination meetings with internal/external teams.
• Participates in value engineering and basic cost estimating.
• Performs calculations using standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.
• Performs on-site design services and field support.
• Works within a multi-discipline team and adheres to QC guidelines.
• Complies with EH&S program and safety in the field.
• Executes structural deliverables on multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
• Performs other duties as assigned by senior staff.

Your Opportunity

As a Structural Engineer your role is to work with direct supervision and general direction on tasks and smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a senior engineer/designer. You will participate in the evaluation, recommendation, and specification for engineered systems or products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Intermediate understanding of all phases of engineering document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering.

• Working towards professional licensure

• Minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$78,900.00 - $114,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
