Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Structural Engineer-in-Training is responsible for working with AtkinsRéalis Engineering, providing design and engineering support for design projects. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work closely with one of our major project teams from concept to completion.

This position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Your role within the team
  1. Prepare structural calculations and review main elements for building structures: concrete, steel, masonry, and wood.
  2. Prepare drawings in Revit or AutoCAD.
  3. Work with the Manager of Engineering to ensure the quality of detailing is consistent with the company’s standards.
  4. Participate in field reviews and inspections to assist with building systems.
  5. Assist with preparing concepts and presentation materials for proposals.
  6. Collaborate, manage, and deliver medium & smaller-scale projects simultaneously.
  7. Participate in establishing project drawing milestone dates.

The ideal candidate
  1. Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering. Registered as an Engineer-in-Training or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
  2. Reliability Clearance for Public Works and RCMP, or ability to obtain it (must have been a resident in Canada for at least 5 years).
  3. 3-5 years of engineering practice experience, including design using NBCC (experience with American IBC & ACSE 7 Codes is a plus).
  4. Experience in detailing steel and concrete structures for industrial, residential, and commercial buildings. Federal project experience, such as with the National Defence, is a plus.
  5. Proficiency in STAAD PRO and ETABS.
  6. Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills, along with organizational and multitasking abilities.
