Structural Engineer-in-Training

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Structural Engineer-in-Training is responsible for working with AtkinsRéalis Engineering, providing design and engineering support for design projects. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work intimately with one of the major project teams from concept to completion.

This position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Your role within the team

  • Prepare structural calculations and review main elements for building structures: Concrete, Steel, masonry, and wood.
  • Prepare drawings in Revit or AutoCAD.
  • Work with the Manager of Engineering to ensure the quality of detailing is consistent with the Company’s standards.
  • Participate in field reviews and inspections to assist building systems.
  • Assist with preparing concepts and presentation materials for proposals.
  • Collaborate, manage and deliver medium & smaller-scale projects at the same time.
  • Participate in establishing project drawing milestone dates.

The ideal candidate

  • Degree in Structural/Civil Engineering. Registered as an Engineer-in-Training or eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
  • Reliability Clearance for Public Works and RCMP to be transferred or able to get it (being in Canada as a Resident for Min 5 years).
  • 3-5 years of experience in engineering practice with experience in design using NBCC (Experience working with American IBC & ACSE 7 Codes will also be considered an asset).
  • Experience in detailing steel and concrete structures for industrial, residential, and commercial buildings. Federal projects experience like the National Defence project will be considered as an asset.
  • STAAD PRO and ETABS proficiency.
  • Excellent analytic, written, and oral skills and organizational and multitasking skills.
