The Structural Engineer is an essential part of the Engineering team responsible for successfully delivering projects worldwide. They play a vital role in designing and engineering water ride structures, aquatic play structures, and other components that comprise ProSlide's award-winning rides.
Please note this is an in-office position located at our head office in Ottawa, ON, at 2650 Queensview Dr. Unit #150, Ottawa, ON K2B 8H6.
YOUR CHALLENGE:
- Under the supervision of a senior engineer, perform structural analysis and design for new and existing structures and foundations, including water ride supports, aquatic play structures, architectural theming elements, and start towers, adhering to regional design codes and standards.
- Design structures using conventional materials like structural steel and reinforced concrete, as well as unconventional materials such as fiberglass.
- Document calculations and technical findings through reports, specifications, and other documentation.
- Collaborate with engineers-in-training and structural designers to develop and review structural and shop drawings.
- Develop Design Specifications and Statements of Works (SOW) for third-party consultants.
- Review drawings, designs, and engineering calculations from third-party consultants.
- Create analytical models using 3D CAD programs (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for input into FEA software (ANSYS, Staad.Pro, RFEM).
- Assist in creating and reviewing shop drawings, specifications, installation details, and work instructions.
- Support the approval process for ProSlide products through international regulatory agencies.
- Participate in developing engineering tools to enhance team efficiency.
- Conduct on-site inspections and ride verification; international travel may be required.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE:
- Masters’ degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- At least 5 years of progressive structural engineering experience, focusing on steel structures and concrete foundations, compliant with Canadian, US, and/or European standards.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in good standing in any Canadian Province; US PE registration is an asset.
- Experience with structural analysis and design software (RFEM, Staad.Pro, etc.) for large-scale structures; familiarity with finite element software (ANSYS, Abaqus) is an asset.
- Experience designing for static, dynamic, and fatigue loading conditions.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD; experience with Revit and SolidWorks is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Experience managing projects from conceptual design through to construction.
- Knowledge of construction documentation and submittal management best practices.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent teamwork, leadership, time management, and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing.
- Experience with 3D modeling of complex shapes and structures is an asset.
- Previous exposure to the aquatics, entertainment, or leisure industries is an asset.
