McCuaig & Associates Engineering Ltd. is seeking a Structural Engineer at our Head Office in Burnaby, BC. The candidate will lead structural design for diverse projects, perform site visits, mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with codes and budgets.

The role requires a minimum of 5 years of structural engineering experience, a Bachelor’s degree in structural design/engineering, and P.Eng/EGBC registration is valued. Travel for site visits and collaboration with clients is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in structural design/engineering from a recognized university.
• P.Eng registration with EGBC; Registration in other western provinces and territories is an asset.
• Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience in the building construction industry.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed structural designs from concept, tender, permit, and construction for various buildings using multiple materials.
• Review structural designs prepared by others as needed.
• Travel to project sites for data collection and site visits as required.
• Use structural knowledge to resolve design or on-site issues.
• Review existing building structural elements and prepare assessment reports.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and other consultants.
• Complete structural site reviews/field investigations.
• Coordinate and run meetings internally and externally.
• Assist with codes, regulations interpretation and implementation.
• Develop/review budgets and cash flows.
• Assist in preparing technical proposal material.

Job description

Salary Range: $90,000.00 To $110,000.00 Annually

McCuaig & Associates Engineering Ltd.(MAE) is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our team at our Head Office in Burnaby, BC. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience as a structural engineer and has experience with assessment, design, and seismic requirements of buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare detailed structural designs from concept, tender, permit, and construction for commercial, recreational, municipal, industrial, and residential buildings, using a variety of structural materials (concrete, timber, mass timber, steel, etc)
• Review structural designs prepared by others as needed
• Periodically travel to project sites on an as-required basis for ½ day or 1-day site visits, typically for data collection, review of construction or attendance at coordination or design review meetings, some out of town travel may be required.
• Use building structural knowledge and construction techniques to come up with solutions to potential design or on-site issues
• Review existing building structural elements and prepare structural assessment reports
• Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other specialty consultants
• Complete structural site reviews/field investigation
• Coordinate and run meetings internally and externally
• Assist with interpreting and implementing applicable codes and regulations
• Develop/ review and approve budgets and cash flows
• Assist in the preparation of technical proposal material for structural projects
• Act as a mentor, teacher and coach to less experienced team members with the goal of growing and guiding them through their careers
• Evaluate the quality of technical design and supports activities which assure a high level of technical quality throughout the firm

Education and Experience

• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree specializing in structural design/ engineering from a recognized university
• Must be registered as a P.Eng. with EGBC; Registration in other western provinces and territories is an asset.
• Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience in the building construction industry

Skills and Qualifications:

• Strong leadership, technical writing skills, and verbal communication skills including presentation skills

• Experience with Revit structural analysis is preferred
• Experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, Etabs, SAFE
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities
• Proven track record of project management skills and experience
• Strong knowledge of building codes
• Comprehensive knowledge of building structural systems, constructability, materials and industry associated standards
• Evaluation of design quality and supporting activities to assure a high level of technical quality throughout the firm
• Receive and offer constructive criticism and communicate professionally
• Scale process, design and effort as required by various roles on projects
• Hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to undergo security screening
