McCuaig & Associates Engineering Ltd. seeks an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer for our Burnaby, BC location. The candidate should have a strong interest in building mechanical systems and at least five years of related experience.

Key duties include project management from inception to post-construction, creating design drawings and specifications, and coordinating with clients and contractors. A P.Eng. registration or eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education/experience.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, or eligible.
• Minimum 5 years of consulting engineering in building mechanical systems.
• Ability to design plumbing and fire suppression systems for commercial/institutional buildings.
• Experience producing plumbing and fire protection drawings, specifications, and tender docs.
• Hydraulic calculations for fire sprinkler systems (NFPA 13).
• Knowledge of BC Plumbing Code, NFPA 13/14, BC Building Code, CSA standards.
• Experience with domestic water, sanitary/storm drainage, and hot water recirculation.

Responsibilities

• Assist with full cycle management of projects from initiation to post-construction.
• Prepare design documents for client review, tender, permit, and construction.
• Develop solutions using building mechanical systems and construction techniques.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other consultants.
• Conduct site reviews/field investigations and coordinate meetings.

• Develop budgets and cash flows.
• Review shop drawings, RFIs, and provide construction site input.

Salary Range: $90,000.00 To $110,000.00 Annually

McCuaig & Associates Engineering Ltd. is looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our Burnaby, BC location. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in building mechanical systems, with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.

About the Job:

• Assist with full cycle management of projects from project initiation to post-construction
• Preparation of design documents such as drawings, specifications, and other relevant technical documents for client review, tender, permit application, and construction
• Use building mechanical systems and construction techniques to come up with solutions to potential design or on-site issues
• Liaise with clients, contractors, suppliers, and other specialty consultants
• Site reviews/field investigation
• Coordinate and run meetings internally and externally
• Assist with interpreting and implementing applicable codes and regulations
• Develop budgets and cash flows
• Evaluate the quality of technical design and support activities which assure a high level of technological quality throughout the firm

About You:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education/experience
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC; or eligible for inter-provincial mobility registration
• Minimum 5 years of consulting engineering experience in building mechanical systems
• Demonstrated ability to independently design plumbing and fire suppression systems for commercial/institutional buildings
• Experience preparing plumbing and fire protection design drawings, specifications, and tender documents
• Ability to perform hydraulic calculations for fire sprinkler systems (NFPA 13) and plumbing system sizing
• Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including BC Plumbing Code, NFPA 13, NFPA 14, BC Building Code, and relevant CSA standards
• Experience with domestic water, sanitary/storm drainage, and hot water recirculation systems
• Experience with standpipe systems and fire pump design
• Familiarity with hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HydraCalc or equivalent)
• Familiarity with boiler room equipment design and hydronic systems
• Experience coordinating with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines during design and construction
• Ability to review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and perform construction site reviews
• Ability to check and review the work of junior staff for accuracy and completeness
• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, including report preparation and client presentations\\
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and contribute to project budget and schedule control\\
• Ability to mentor junior staff and support team development
• Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk AutoCAD/Revit, and Microsoft Office
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Valid driver’s license; position includes travel to project sites
• Willingness to undergo security clearance or criminal record check when required
