Qualifications

  • Four-year degree in related field such as Business, Urban Planning, Engineering or Project Management.
  • Five years of project management experience in municipal planning, engineering, construction, or assets.
  • Familiarity with municipal procurement practices and SAP Ariba.
  • Experience managing full project life cycle from initiation through closeout.
  • Proficient with project management methodologies, risk tracking and scheduling tools.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Systems-thinking approach aligned to strategic goals.
  • High political acumen and discretion.
  • Ability to coordinate diverse partners and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day tactical project steps, keeping timelines, budgets, and strategic goals on track.
  • Direct external consultant workflows, review deliverables, and ensure contract requirements are met.
  • Maintain project frameworks, including schedules, risk registers, and milestone tracking.
  • Draft briefing materials, reports, and presentations for branch leadership and City Council.
  • Coordinate and support engagement strategies, including workshops with internal and external partners.
  • Ensure project outcomes integrate across different sections of the branch.

Job description

Welcome to a space where your organizational talents directly shape the future landscape of our city. We are looking for an energetic, collaborative professional to join our team and help coordinate critical growth initiatives. Working within the Branch Manager’s Office for Development Services, you will provide dedicated project management and operational support for high-priority initiatives. You will report to the Director of Future Growth, helping to advance the Future Growth Area Servicing Study and supporting the Development Services Modernization project. This role ensures key projects transition smoothly from concept to completion by directing consultant workflows, coordinating project tracks, and keeping diverse collaborators aligned.

What will you do?
  • Manage day-to-day tactical project steps, keeping timelines, budgets, and strategic goals on track
  • Direct external consultant workflows, review technical deliverables, and ensure contract requirements are met
  • Maintain clear project frameworks, including schedules, risk registers, and milestone tracking
  • Draft high-quality briefing materials, reports, and presentations for branch leadership and City Council
  • Coordinate and support engagement strategies, including facilitating workshops with internal and external partners
  • Ensure project outcomes integrate seamlessly across different sections of the branch
  • Completion of a four (4) year degree in a related field, such as Business, Urban Planning, Engineering, or Project Management
  • Five (5) years of project management experience within municipal planning, engineering, construction, or an area of specialization Assets
  • Familiarity with municipal procurement practices and systems, specifically SAP Ariba Skills Required for Success
  • Adept at coordinating the full project life cycle from initiation through closeout
  • Proficient in applying project management methodologies, risk tracking, and scheduling tools
  • Skilled in overseeing external consultants and ensuring high-quality technical deliverables
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills to navigate competing priorities and overlapping deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, with a focus on writing clear, professional reports and briefing documents
  • A systems-thinking approach to align individual project deliverables with broader strategic goals
  • High political acumen and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information
  • Proactive problem-solving skills to identify project risks early and establish creative mitigation strategies

Work Environment - Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52 - The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance - This role works primarily in an indoor setting - Availability to attend events during the evenings and weekends may be required from time to time - This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states
