Job summary

The District of Fort St. James seeks a permanent, full-time Chief Financial Officer to lead all financial operations, including budgeting, reporting, planning, asset management, taxation, payroll, procurement and compliance.

Reporting to the CAO, the CFO will provide financial analysis, risk management advice, and strategic recommendations to Council and senior management, support fiscal sustainability, and uphold accountability for municipal services to residents.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in local government finance.
• Experience supervising staff in a unionized environment; strong leadership.
• Ability to attend evening Council meetings and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and long-term financial planning.
• Manage assets, taxation, payroll, procurement, and regulatory compliance.
• Provide financial analysis, risk management advice, and strategic recommendations to Council and senior management.
