Job summary

Commissionaires Nova Scotia in Bedford, Nova Scotia, seeks a strategic Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, reporting, budgeting, forecasting and governance. • Senior financial leadership experience in a complex organization.
• Experience advising executive teams and boards.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards and governance.
• Ability to translate strategic priorities into financial plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead the organization’s financial strategy and provide executive‑level financial advice.
• Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, internal controls, and governance frameworks, and oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, controllership, treasury management, and audit activities.
• Manage the enterprise financial systems and reporting platforms that keep the organization’s financial information timely and accurate, preparing and presenting financial reports to the CEO, Executive Team, Finance and Audit Committee, and Board of Governors, and developing the annual operating and capital budgets, including required submissions to PSPC.
• Provide strategic pricing guidance, including contract billing and labour rates, and ensure compliance with financial, regulatory, tax, and not‑for‑profit reporting requirements, including CRA obligations.
• Externally, manage relationships with financial institutions, auditors, insurers, the national Commissionaires federation, and government partners, and contribute to organizational strategy through financial analysis, business cases, and recommendations that support sustainable growth.
• Internally, provide executive oversight of payroll, compensation, benefits, and related financial administration, and lead, mentor, and develop a finance team spanning budgeting, payroll and accounts, IT/cyber, and procurement.
