Job summary

Associated Engineering in Calgary seeks an experienced Stormwater Engineer to lead municipal infrastructure design and construction projects. You will oversee stormwater drainage, water transmission, sanitary sewer work, and earthworks, while coordinating with cross-functional teams and clients.

You will act as Engineer of Record, manage cost estimates and specifications, and support proposals and professional development.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate civil engineering degree from an accredited university.
• Registered Professional Engineer with APEGA.
• Over 8 years of civil engineering experience with emphasis on water, sanitary and stormwater utilities.
• Experience in designs overlapping civil site servicing and stormwater management.
• Experience in drainage design for transportation infrastructure and municipal facilities is an asset.
• Familiarity with Alberta/City of Calgary requirements is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams from concept to construction.
• Act as Engineer of Record for designs, reports, cost estimates, specs and contract docs.
• Execute tenders, constructability reviews, contract administration, and inspection.
• Ensure field work safe as Prime Contractor and compliant with HSE.
• Build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships for project outcomes.
• Perform QA/QC reviews for project deliverables.
• Support Project Manager with client liaison, scope, schedule and budgets.
• Assist in preparing proposals with content on understanding, methodology, team and fees.
• Support development of Engineers-In-Training programs.

The opportunity

Associated Engineering, a proudly Canadian, Employee-owned Company is seeking an experienced and dedicated Stormwater Engineer to join our team in our Calgary office. In this role you will be responsible for stormwater designs and civil engineering work. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team active on municipal infrastructure projects, including design and construction of stormwater drainage, water transmission, sanitary sewer collection and grading projects in both brownfield and greenfield settings. You will provide technical expertise and project design coordination while demonstrating resourcefulness, and adaptability in your role. You will have hands-on involvement in preparing proposals, advancing projects through the concept, design and construction phases.

What you'll be doing:

• Leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver project objectives from concept to design to construction.
• Acting as Engineer of Record for designs, technical reports, cost estimates, technical specifications and construction contract documents for work completed independently or by others through direct supervision.
• Executing tenders, constructability assessments, contract administration, and inspection of municipal infrastructure projects.
• Acting as Prime Contractor to also that field work is executed in a safe manner that meets company and client HSE requirements.
• Actively build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, suppliers, contractors, other consultants, government administrators for the benefit of clients, projects and business development.
• Perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control reviews for other Engineers of Record on project deliverables.
• Supporting the Project Manager by liaising with the client, managing scope, schedule and budgets.
• Supporting proposal submissions by preparing key content such as project understanding, methodology, team organization and fees.
• Supporting the development of Engineers-In-Training.

Does this sound like you?

• Undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an accredited university.
• Registered, as a Professional Engineer with APEGA.
• Over 8 years of civil engineering experience, and ideally a minimum of 2 years as a Professional Engineer, with an emphasis on water, sanitary and stormwater utilities and earthworks.
• Experience in designs that overlap between civil site servicing and stormwater management.
• Experience in designing drainage systems, including stormwater ponds, for transportation infrastructure and municipal utilities' facilities (e.g., treatment plants, pump stations) is an asset.
• Experience in alternative construction delivery will be considered an asset.
• Proven application of government and industry design, standards, specifications, regulations and guidelines for water, sanitary and stormwater infrastructure design and construction. Experience with City of Calgary and Alberta requirements will be considered an asset.
• Possesses a valid driver’s license and can travel within Alberta.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, Microsoft Office Suite, VisiSpecs.
• Use of Civil 3D for pipe network and grading design is considered an asset.
• Familiarity in using water management software such as PCSWMM, MIKE, HEC-RAS or Infoworks is considered an asset.
