Job summary

IMP Aerospace & Defence is seeking a Stores Controller to join our team near the Halifax International Airport. You will manage shipping/receiving, stock movements, and transfers to production groups, ensuring accurate inventory and secure handling of materials.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 or equivalent education with related training/experience.
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Minimum 2 years in inventory control, preferably in warehouse/storeroom.
  • Physical ability to perform required duties.
  • Knowledge of inventory control methods and computerized records.
  • Ability to work independently and make judgments.
  • Proficient computer skills with relevant systems.
  • Basic WHMIS knowledge and related regulations.
  • Current provincial driver’s license.
  • Good attendance and performance records.
  • Ability to operate warehouse equipment and tools.
  • Commitment to Health, Safety and Environment policies.
  • Participation in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 5S.
  • Eligible for CGP/Secret Level II clearance and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Complete shipping and receiving documentation and verify/trace parts and materials.
  • Package items for outgoing shipments with proper labeling and instructions.
  • Receive, sort and issue incoming parts and supplies.
  • Prepare transfers to MOBs and internal production teams.
  • Process requisitions and distribute parts/supplies.
  • Inspect goods against invoices; record shortages and reject damaged items.
  • Count stock and recommend stock adjustments; review for approvals.
  • Move material as directed to manufacturing and repair operations.
  • Operate truck, forklifts and related warehouse machinery.
  • Provide on-job-training to other Stores personnel.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Management.

Position Overview

The Stores Controller will report to the CSH Department at IMP Aerospace and Defence location near the Halifax International Airport.

What You Will Do
  • Complete shipping and receiving documentation and verify and trace incoming and outgoing parts, supplies and material.
  • Packages items for outgoing shipments and affix identifying information and shipping instructions.
  • Receive, sort and issue/route incoming parts and supplies.
  • Pick and prepare transfers to MOBs as well as internal production teams
  • Process incoming requisitions and distribute parts/supplies.
  • Inspect and verify incoming goods against invoices or other documents, record shortages and reject damaged goods.
  • Counts stock, completes stocktaking investigations for evaluation and reviews and recommends stock adjustments, stock levels for approval.
  • Moves material through operations as directed by Management/Lead Hand for items manufactured, repaired or overhauled by the company.
  • Researches and collects data information, inputs data and produces various reports, including computer generated reports.
  • Sweeps and cleans warehouse, sub-stores and adjacent areas, ensuring order and cleanliness in the workplace is of a high standard.
  • Prepares material transaction vouchers and other Stores logistics documents. Carries out filing, record keeping and detailed register entries.
  • Sets-up cutting tools/equipment and cut/distributes material for Production and Manufacturing Operations.
  • Operates truck, forklifts and other machinery/equipment used in the handling of material.
  • Assists and provides on-job-training to other personnel in the Stores Controller trade.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by Management.
What You Will Bring
  • Minimum education level of Grade 10 or its equivalent and related training and experience.
  • Forklift Operator certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • At least two years experience in inventory control, preferably in a warehouse or storeroom.
  • Have the physical ability to perform the role.
  • Knowledge of inventory control methods, manuals and computerized record keeping systems and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and to make independent judgments.
  • Skill in operating a computer with its related software relevant to the position.
  • Basic knowledge of WHMIS regulations and other regulations, as they relate to shipping.
  • Have a current provincial driver’s license.
  • Have acceptable attendance and performance records.
  • Incumbents in this Classification may be required to operate equipment including warehouse aids, hand bench cutting tools and various vehicles.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies. Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 5S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
