Job summary

The position is casual with no guaranteed hours; lifting and standing are required, and a valid Class 5 license is preferred along with SAP and MS Office familiarity.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing education programs
  • Working knowledge of SAP preferred
  • Experience in central stores/purchasing environment preferred
  • Knowledge of inventory control
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Understanding of Materials Management and impact on patient care
  • Ability to travel to multiple NSH facilities within Western Zone
  • Must be able to stand, move, bend, lift heavy objects
  • French language skills an asset

Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing, coordinating and controlling inventories and supplies
  • Enter and pick orders, pack, label, shrink wrap and stage orders for shipping
  • Receive and put away incoming shipments and deliver supplies to NSH locations
  • Operate warehouse equipment (electric/manual pallet jacks) and employer supply vehicles
  • Support cycle counts and special projects as needed
  • Maintain a safe and clean warehouse environment
  • Support proper handling of dangerous goods where applicable

About the Opportunity

Reporting to the Supply Chain Logistics Manager, the Stores Clerk assists in the organization, coordination and control and delivery of inventories and supplies in support of health care services throughout Western Nova Scotia. Duties may occasionally include distribution of supplies to other sites in Western Nova Scotia. Duties include: managing supply closets, entering and picking orders, proper packing, labeling, shrink wrapping and staging of picked order for shipping, receiving and putting away incoming shipments, delivering supplies to other NSH locations offsite and keeping the warehouse clean. The incumbent will also be responsible for operating and maintaining warehouse equipment, e.g. electric pallet jacks, manual pallet jacks, etc. and operating employer supply vehicles, including trucks up to 28 feet in length. Other duties may be assigned as needed, such as the loading/unloading of devliery vehicles, cycle counts and special projects, as well as the organizing and delivering of stock and non-stock items, some of which may be Dangerous Goods. The Stores Clerk ensures that the principles and practices that guide our work such as the mission, vision, values, expected behaviours, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and inter professional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.

About You

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • A valid class 5 driver's license with a satisfactory clean driving abstract
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing education programs
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with a variety of computer software and programs
  • Demonstrated planning, organizational, priority setting skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and also effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills as well as leadership skills
  • Working knowledge of the SAP computer system is preferred
  • Previous experience in a central stores/purchasing environment preferred
  • Knowledge of inventory control preferred
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and current relevant experience with Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated understanding of the role of Materials Management Service in the delivery of patient care and understanding of how errors may affect medical treatment and cause financial loss
  • The ability to travel to multiple Nova Scotia Health facilities within the Western Zone for Supply Chain related responsibilities
  • PLEASE NOTE: This position requires considerable standing, moving, bending, kneeling, and lifting of heavy and awkward objects
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
