Stewardship Officer

Salary: $39.75 to $47.32 hourly (Based on 75 hours bi-weekly)

The Stewardship Officer plays a key role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of Yukon University’s fundraising and donor relations operations. Reporting to the Manager of Alumni and Advancement, the position oversees donation processing, reconciliation, receipting, financial stewardship, and donor recognition activities for the Yukon University Foundation while ensuring compliance with University policies and Canada Revenue Agency requirements.

Working collaboratively across University Relations, Finance, Procurement, Marketing and Communications, and other campus units, the Stewardship Officer provides expert guidance on gift processing and donor stewardship, supports the Foundation Board and Development team, and maintains systems and processes that strengthen donor trust and operational efficiency. The role also contributes to financial reporting, audit preparation, special projects, donor recognition initiatives, and continuous improvements to financial controls and workflows. This position requires sound judgment, discretion, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage confidential information and competing priorities independently.

Essential Skills and Qualifications
  • Two-year diploma in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Two to three years of experience in financial administration, accounting, donor services, fundraising, or a related field, preferably in a post-secondary or nonprofit environment.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reconciliation, accounting principles, data management, and charitable giving requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately process, reconcile, and account for financial transactions and donations using donor CRM software.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to independently prioritize multiple deadlines and competing demands.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, accountability, and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with donors, staff, faculty, Board members, contractors, and external partners.
  • Ability to interpret and apply financial policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment when handling complex or sensitive transactions.
  • Proficiency with financial, donor database, and other computerized systems, with the ability to identify opportunities for process and technology improvements.
  • Ability to provide informal leadership, subject-matter expertise, and high-quality service across the University.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, effective financial controls, and positive donor stewardship.
  • Ability to prepare invitations, agendas, minutes, and supporting materials for board meetings.
  • Ability to collaborate with departments to prepare and distribute accurate, timely donor reports tailored to donor requirements.
