Job summary

Fairmont Hotel Macdonald in Edmonton is seeking a Chief Steward to lead the Stewarding department under the Executive Chef. You will ensure smooth daily operations, manage inventory, and uphold high standards of cleanliness and service in support of the Food & Beverage teams.

You should bring prior leadership experience in Stewarding, strong problem-solving and guest-focused service, and the ability to forecast labor and expenses.

Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience required (in a Stewarding Department preferred).
  • Ability to work under pressure in fast paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities.
  • Working knowledge of labor forecasting, scheduling and expense forecasting is an asset.
  • Computer knowledge in Microsoft Windows applications is required.
  • University/College degree in a related discipline is an asset.
  • Highly responsible and reliable.
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure smooth operation of the Stewarding department on a daily basis.
  • Maintain inventory of machines and equipment and ensure preventative maintenance is in place.
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow Colleagues.
  • Balance operational, administrative and colleague needs.
  • Supervise, clean & maintain the sanitation of kitchen and stewarding equipment and other areas assigned.
  • Ensure all banquet event orders are reviewed and ensure proper set-ups are in place.
  • Prepare monthly reports on shortages in china, silverware, equipment and chemicals.
  • Follow department policies, procedures and service standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

What you will be doing:

Qualifications
Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):
  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 30 lbs.
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting.
  • Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps.
Your experience and skills include:
  • Previous leadership experience required (in a Stewarding Department preferred)
