Job summary

Brex is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for its Product Data Platform in Vancouver. You will shape the technical direction of a high-performance data and search infrastructure powering Brex product experiences, including AI-powered reporting.

You’ll own architecture and drive cross-team initiatives, balancing long-term strategy with hands-on delivery in a hybrid Vancouver office environment. Expect to mentor engineers and influence peers with a bias toward excellence.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience, including leadership on multi-team initiatives.
• Lead architecture and delivery for large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep PostgreSQL (or Aurora) knowledge: query plans, indexing, optimization.
• Ability to drive cross-cutting problems to resolution without a defined charter.
• Strong written and verbal communication, able to influence without authority.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical strategy for PDP initiatives across multiple teams.
• Resolve cross-team performance, consistency, and scalability issues.
• Own architecture direction for query performance and data access patterns.
• Design distributed systems with tradeoffs in consistency, latency, and cost.
• Raise technical bar via design reviews and architecture decisions.
• Mentor and grow the next generation of PDP engineers.
• Contribute hands-on in JVM ecosystem (Kotlin/Java).
