Job description
Overview

Join Our Mission: Help the Helpers with Jane

Jane is a remote-first company focused on fostering growth, delivering delight, and serving the healthcare community. We are seeking people who want to contribute while simplifying the lives of healthcare practitioners and patients daily. Jane supports remote work from anywhere in Canada.

Your Role in Our Journey

As a Staff Developer on the Insurance Integrations team, you will lead at the intersection of technical leadership, systems design, and team growth. You will establish standards for how we design, document, and scale complex systems and drive projects foundational to Jane’s billing and insurance strategy. You will collaborate with engineers across levels to elevate architectural thinking and ensure resilient, scalable solutions that support Jane’s mission.

Learn More About Us

We are founder-led and value-driven, with a vision for the future. Our product enables physiotherapists, mental health counsellors, chiropractors, and other allied health practitioners to run their practices digitally, with features such as online booking, charting, scheduling, telehealth, secure payments, and billing as our library evolves. More details are available in our Glassdoor and Capterra reviews (links provided in the original posting).

Jane emphasizes high standards, care for colleagues and customers, and continuous improvement. We value curiosity and the drive to solve the right problems, with a willingness to learn new approaches.

Jane offers autonomy and flexibility to fit work into your life. You may block out time for personal needs; there are channels for parents, plants, pets, food, pride, and wellness. We connect virtually and in person through departmental get-togethers, company retreats, and occasional conferences in North America. We are seeking people ready to contribute to making healthcare professionals’ lives easier every day.

You can learn more about Jane as a company and product via Glassdoor reviews and Capterra reviews.

The Impact You Could Have
  • Lead the design and implementation of architectural patterns that standardize and simplify how new insurance integrations are built.
  • Influence the technical direction of Jane’s insurance domain by applying systems thinking to large-scale, complex challenges.
  • Mentor and coach developers across levels, raising the bar on technical design, documentation, and problem-solving.
  • Collaborate with engineering leaders and cross-functional partners to ensure insurance integrations are reliable, extensible, and built for growth.
  • Shape how Jane delivers insurance solutions to compete and win in a key market.
The Experience We Feel We Need
  • A University Degree in Computer Science or a related STEM field plus approximately 10+ years of experience. Those with a Master’s or PhD may be considered with less experience. Alternatively, candidates with 13+ years of industry experience from non-traditional paths (bootcamps or self-teaching) are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience at staff level across multiple products and companies, bringing a well-rounded perspective on development methodologies and collaboration.
  • Strong backend design and scaling experience; Rails is valued but not required. Great developers can learn any tech stack with proper support.
  • Ability to model complex business domains into scalable, maintainable architectures.
  • Solid frontend knowledge, particularly React, is a bonus for full-stack discussions.
  • Ownership of design and architecture across multiple teams, aligned with organizational goals.
  • Experience creating technical standards, best practices, and culture-building practices across teams.
  • Desire to remain hands-on in coding while leading teams through technical challenges.
  • Ability to communicate complex solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience driving internal education, design reviews, documentation, or mentorship to help teams grow.
  • Jane primarily uses Ruby on Rails, but experience in other OOP languages (Java, C#, Python, etc.) is welcomed; ramp-up support is available for new tech.
Compensation & Benefits

We are committed to fair and transparent compensation with growth. The role has an annual salary range of $154,400 to $241,300. Most new hires join at the accomplished stage, corresponding to an annual salary of $183,400. Starting salaries below this indicate high potential with growth ahead; salaries above reflect significant impact and Jane-specific knowledge.

We believe in paying for growth with regular career development conversations and compensation tied to experience and contribution. Watch a short video about how salary bands are set, and feel free to ask questions about compensation during the interview process.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package. More details are available in the original posting.

Jane is committed to an inclusive, equitable, and diverse workplace. We value collaboration, humility, and a growth mindset, and we welcome accommodations or adjustments during the interview process as needed.
