Yelp’s mission involves using cutting-edge Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to connect people with local businesses across diverse geographical locations. As a Staff ML Engineer on the Content Contributor Intelligence team, you will build connections across millions of users and business listings, utilizing neural networks, large language models, embedding techniques, and traditional ML methods like XGBoost and linear models. You will handle raw data, develop ML systems end-to-end, and contribute to ML platforms.

What You'll Do

• Conduct data analyses, from wrangling with SQL/Python to statistical modeling and business hypothesis presentation.
• Mentor junior engineers, fostering learning and technical excellence.
• Work with large textual and visual datasets.
• Support development and deployment of ML models for offline and online data products.
• Work on text and visual understanding, including fine-tuning transformer models for embeddings.
• Automate and productionize model pipelines within Python services.
• Promote best practices in ML development and operations, mentoring newer engineers.

What It Takes To Succeed

• Experience with developing and deploying ML models, especially neural networks and computer vision, including data pipelines.
• Proficiency with ML packages like PyTorch, TensorFlow, Spark MLlib, XGBoost, Sklearn.
• Strong coding skills in Python or similar languages (Java, C++).
• Understanding of engineering and infrastructure best practices.
• Curiosity and persistence in solving new problems.
• Experience with LLMs, APIs (OpenAI, Bedrock), prompt engineering, and evaluation is highly valued.
