Job summary

GitHub is seeking a staff search and data-focused engineer to join the team building the future of Search. This role offers a remote-first setup from Canada, focusing on scalable Elasticsearch-based infrastructure and API-driven data interfaces.

You will lead architectural efforts, mentor teammates, and drive improvements across reliability, performance, and security while collaborating with cross-functional partners.

Qualifications

• 9+ years' experience in software engineering with production-grade coding in multiple languages.
• Qualification path includes various degrees or equivalent experience as detailed in the ad.
• Experience delivering scalable software and leading teams is required.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and ship scalable solutions across GitHub services.
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and code reviews.
• Own system health, participate in on-call rotations and live incidents.
• Write architecture briefs, carry out experiments, and design APIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders on solutions.
