Job summary

Zenbooks is a fully remote Canadian accounting firm seeking a Staff Accountant to deliver precise bookkeeping and client service. You will prepare financial reports, manage records, and collaborate with Senior Accountants using cloud tools like Xero, QBO, Dext and Plooto from a home office.

Ideal candidates are detail‑focused, proactive in asking questions, and eager to learn; you will handle AR/AP processing, GST/HST/PST returns, and client communications during core hours.

Qualifications

We are seeking a highly organized Staff Accountant who is committed to delivering exceptional customer experiences and has a keen eye for detail. The ideal candidate will be proactive in asking questions, eager to learn new skills, and dedicated to continuous improvement.

Priorities will include:

• Preparing accurate financial reports for Senior Accountants and Clients.
• Managing/supporting client relationships.
• Effectively using cloud accounting software, including Xero, QBO, Dext and Plooto

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform the day-to-day accounting activities to maintain client records, while ensuring completeness of the records.
• Enter data into accounting software, while managing the integrity of information and documentation.
• Review and process documentation submitted by clients (bills, invoices, etc).
• Proactively reach out to clients for additional information that’s needed.
• Communicate with clients by email and video calls.
• Organize and prepare accounting records, financial statements, and reports for the Senior Accountant.
• Provide regular processing for accounts receivable and accounts payable.
• Preparing sales tax (GST/HST/PST) returns

Salary: $60,000 to $70,000 per year

Our Interview Process:

1. Phone Screen: Selected candidates will be invited to a phone interview with our People & Culture Generalist, Ashley Saunders, to discuss the role in more detail.
2. Case Activity: Candidates moving forward will complete a Case Activity.
3. Interview with Leadership: Candidates progressing to the final stage will take part in a 2-way Zoom interview with our Director of Accounting Services, Jessica Wong, and our Accounting Services Manager, Beata Fartel. During this session, you'll discuss your case, address any final questions, and some candidates may be asked to complete a QBO walkthrough.
4. Final Stage: The selected candidate will be extended an offer and introduced to the team!
