As a market-facing Senior Underwriter in the Accident & Health team, reporting to the AVP, Underwriting Manager, you will source new business opportunities and manage underwriting outcomes to grow our portfolio across Canada. This role offers a supportive environment to develop your skills and influence our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source new business and manage underwriting results to expand our national portfolio.
  • Administer and monitor underwriting rules, guidelines, laws, and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain broker relationships to support retention and growth.
  • Guide junior staff and collaborate with business partners on referrals.
  • Negotiate terms, close deals, and cross-sell lines of business.
  • Participate in sales meetings and target account processes.
  • Serve as the primary contact for assigned accounts and accurately calculate pricing using underwriting tools.
  • Assess exposures, analyze risks, quote, and determine coverage; handle declinations and cancellations.
  • Lead marketing presentations and provide technical advice to clients.
  • Build and sustain positive customer relationships and anticipate their needs.
  • Lead projects and contribute to underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines.

Qualifications

Required :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus 3+ years in market-facing Accident & Health underwriting, or
  • 6+ years in underwriting support or claims, or
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree plus 1+ year in market-facing Accident & Health underwriting, or
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree plus 4+ years in claims or underwriting support.

Additional requirements include knowledge of Accident & Health lines, legal and regulatory guidelines, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred :

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 3+ years in Accident & Health underwriting in a market-facing role.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Note for Quebec candidates : French language skills are required; fluency in English is also necessary for communication outside Quebec.
