Job summary

Scarborough Transit Connect is seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead on-site construction for the SSE-SRS project in Scarborough. You will oversee safety, scheduling, and quality while coordinating with station construction managers and project directors.

The role requires 20 years of heavy civil experience and a valid G driver’s license, with flexibility for overtime and shifts. STC offers comprehensive benefits and development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • 20 years’ experience in heavy civil construction projects; minimum 10 years in supervisory roles.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary operations teams including superintendents, foremen, coordinators and union staff.
  • Ability to identify constructability issues and adapt plans and schedules accordingly.
  • Proven ability to maintain safety, quality, schedule and budget in high-pressure environments.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Oversee all on-site construction activities daily and approve progress reporting.
  • Ensure construction aligns with design requirements and quality standards.

  • Translate drawings and specs into prioritized work plans; maintain schedule and budget.
  • Provide safety meetings and coaching to build a strong functional team.

Who We Are

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension - Stations, Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC's Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

Position Title: Sr. Superintendent

What You Will Do
  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, subcontractors, and consultants in compliance with STC's Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
  • Oversee all on-site construction activities on a daily basis and approve production records reporting on work progress.
  • Ensure construction is in compliance with design requirements.
  • Track and report on project quality control, resource requirements, and customer or labour relations.
  • Ensure project materials and workmanship meet the project quality standards.
  • Ensure Superintendent(s) comply with all assignments, project policies and procedures.
  • Direct Superintendent(s) on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foremen and crews to overcome challenges.
  • Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Superintendent(s), Foremen and crews perform to meet production goals.
  • Translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirect crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Contribute to the development of a construction plan.
  • Work with the Station Construction Manager and Project Director to identify equipment and labour resource requirements and to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
  • Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
  • Document reporting of and maintaining in good repair all company owned and rented tools, equipment and assets.
  • Support an inclusive employee relationship culture and be accountable for adherence to policies/collective agreements that ensure a respectful and inclusive work environment for all staff and union craft employees.
Experience You Will Bring
  • 20 years’ experience in heavy civil construction projects with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a supervisory position overseeing and directing staff and subcontractors.
  • Proven ability to lead a multidisciplinary operations team including superintendents, foremen, project coordinators, field engineers and unionized craft employees.
  • Capable of identifying constructability issues in moderately complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule.
  • Ability to guide safe work practices in a high-pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule and budget.
  • Experience managing work in a self-performing work environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable OH&S legislation.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficient Computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Must have a valid class G driver's license.
  • Flexibility to work the project schedule which may include overtime, weekends and/or night shift as required.
