Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, CS, or related field.
  • 10+ years of software development experience, ideally in regulated environments.
  • 3–5 years leading software engineering teams.
  • Strong C#/C++, WPF, MVC and .NET experience.
  • Experience with software architecture, design, testing, and deployment.
  • Familiarity with Git/GitLab, CI/CD, and modern development practices.
  • Knowledge of Windows and/or Linux environments and regulated quality standards.
  • Excellent communication and people-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of three software developers, including senior and junior members.

Sr. Software Engineering Lead/ Architect

Location: Toronto, ON
Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: $125,000–$165,000 + 15% Bonus + Benefits (Depending on experience)

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of software developers within a highly regulated, technology-driven environment. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing the software development lifecycle, providing technical direction, managing project priorities and timelines, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, compliant software solutions.

The successful candidate will manage a team of three developers and work closely with engineering, product, and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of three software developers, including senior and junior team members.

  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle from architecture and design through testing, deployment, commercialization, and sustaining.

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance, code reviews, troubleshooting support, and assistance with complex development challenges.

  • Establish priorities, allocate resources, manage timelines, and ensure projects are delivered according to scope and requirements.

  • Drive software architecture, development processes, testing, quality, and continuous improvement.

  • Lead software documentation and ensure development activities meet applicable regulatory and quality requirements.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and internal/external stakeholders to define requirements and deliver customer-focused solutions.

  • Support production issues and contribute to problem-solving across both new and mature projects.

  • Mentor and develop team members while fostering accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

  • 10+ years of software development experience, ideally within a regulated industry.

  • 3–5 years of experience managing and leading software engineering teams.

  • Strong preference for candidates with medical device experience; experience in aerospace or another highly regulated industry may also be considered.

  • Strong hands-on development experience with C#, C++, WPF, MVC, and .NET.

  • Experience with software architecture, system design, integration, code reviews, testing, and deployment.

  • Experience with Git/GitLab, CI/CD, and modern software development practices.

  • Experience developing software in Windows and/or Linux environments.

  • Strong understanding of software quality, testing, documentation, and regulated development environments.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and people-management skills.

  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, project roadmaps, timelines, and resources.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with IEC 62304, ISO 13485, IEC 60601, ISO 14971, or similar regulatory standards.

  • Familiarity with medical device regulations, including Health Canada, FDA, or EMA requirements.

  • Experience with embedded software.

  • Familiarity with DICOM or medical imaging systems.

  • Experience with Avalonia is an asset.
