Job summary

Suncor Energy in Calgary is seeking a Reservoir Engineer to lead reservoir engineering support for a SAGD asset. You will focus on maximizing resource recovery, sustaining production, and applying advanced simulation to operational decisions.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in reservoir engineering with direct SAGD experience and a proven track record in model development, history matching, and forecasting. This role offers strong growth and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of reservoir engineering experience, with in situ oil sands experience.
  • Direct SAGD experience in an operating asset environment.
  • Hands-on reservoir simulation: model development, history matching, forecasting, and applying results to decisions.
  • Strong expertise in advanced reservoir engineering principles and production forecasting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide stewardship of subsurface process safety and reservoir management practices.
  • Develop and maintain reservoir simulation models to support operational decisions and development planning.
  • Prepare production forecasts for business planning and asset management.
  • Monitor KPI trends and identify optimization opportunities to mitigate risks.
  • Develop reservoir management strategies to optimize bitumen recovery and steam efficiency.
  • Assess performance and uncertainty to inform reserves evaluation and investments.
  • Prepare technical documentation for regulatory applications and compliance.
  • Collaborate with geology, operations, drilling, completions, and facilities teams to drive performance improvements.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related technical field, CET or Red Seal Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Applied Science, or a related discipline, registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta
  • Minimum 10+ years of reservoir engineering experience, withprior in situ oil sands experience required
  • Direct SAGD experience required, preferably in an operating asset environment.
  • Demonstrated hands-on reservoir simulation experience required, including model development, history matching, forecasting, and application of simulation results to operational and development decisions
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced reservoir engineering principles, methodologies, and applications
  • Strong proficiency in production forecasting, performance analysis, and recovery optimization
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, or areas of technical specialization in a fast-paced operating environment

Responsibilities:
  • Provide stewardship of subsurface process safety and reservoir management practices
  • Develop, maintain, and applyreservoir simulation modelsto support operational decision-making, optimization opportunities, and future development planning
  • Prepare, maintain, and steward production forecasts to support business planning and asset management
  • Monitor and interpret reservoir, well, and field performance KPIs to identify optimization opportunities and mitigate performance risks
  • Develop and implement reservoir management strategies to optimize bitumen recovery, steam efficiency, and overall asset value
  • Assess reservoir performance, conformance, and uncertainty to support strategic planning, reserves evaluation, and investment decisions
  • Prepare technical documentation and provide support for regulatory applications, approvals, and compliance requirements
  • Collaborate closely with geology, operations, production engineering, drilling, completions, and facilities teams to influence decisions, drive performance improvements, and deliver business results
  • Provide reservoir engineering leadership, technical guidance, and mentoring to junior engineers and other stakeholders as required
Location and other Key details:
  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 - 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
