Job summary

Suncor is seeking motivated new graduate Mining Engineers (EITs) to support mine planning, tailings management, water management and reclamation activities in Fort McMurray, AB. Relocation assistance is provided, and strong benefits and development programs are offered.

Positions require an undergraduate degree in Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering and membership eligibility with APEGA. Hybrid work and relocation support are available as part of our flexible offerings.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering; new graduates or EITs eligible
  • Registered or immediately eligible for membership with APEGA
  • Strong computer skills are required
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite
  • Knowledge of CAD systems (CAD software)
  • Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs and calculate volumes for integrated mine and tailings plans
  • Create and present plans for productivity, geotechnical risks, water management, mining rates and equipment capabilities
  • Conduct field tours and observations to monitor plan execution
  • Communicate with Operations and field personnel to support plan execution
  • Develop new approaches and apply current processes in new ways
  • Analyze technical data and draw conclusions from comparisons
  • Independently plan and conduct projects to improve mine efficiency
  • Be a role model for safety policies and practices
  • Plan and organize work for reclamation and sustainability of operations

Minimum Requirements:
  • Seeking new graduate or recently graduated EITs

  • Undergraduate degree in Mining, Civil or Geological Engineering

  • Registered or are immediately eligible for membership with the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGA)

  • Strong computer skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of programs

  • Knowledge of CADD systems

  • Alberta Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent

Responsibilities:

  • Create and present plans and stewardships on productivity, geological and geotechnical risks, water management, mining rates and equipment capabilities with originality

  • Conduct field tours and observations as needed to monitor plan execution

  • Communication with Operations and field personnel to support plan execution as required

  • Devise new approaches and apply current processes in new ways every single day

  • Analyze technical data and draw conclusions from comparative situations

  • Independently plan and conduct projects to improve mine efficiency as required

  • Be a dedicated role model for safety policies, procedures and practices

  • Plan and organize work for the reclamation and sustainability of our growing operations

Location and other Key details:
  • Positions are located in Fort McMurray, AB

  • Our engineering roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work

  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided

  • Depending on the nature of the role, we have implemented a Hybrid Work Model to provide our employees with more flexibility. To learn more, speak to your recruiter
