SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Sr. Quality Engineer is responsible for identifying, interpreting, and assessing compliance against customer requirements. This position plays a key role with new production introduction, customer contract reviews, manufacturing, and overall support of the quality management system. This position also addresses and supports key account activities from quality assurance perspective. The Sr. Quality Engineer is in Northstar’s Quality Department, and reports to the Quality Manager. The position works with all levels of employees throughout the organization as necessary to facilitate quality assurance goals but does not directly or indirectly supervise any other employees. This is a full-time position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Define, interpret, and classify quality characteristics for new and existing products and processes.
- Interpret specification requirements in relation to product and process characteristics and technical drawings, including characteristics such as views, title blocks, dimensioning and tolerancing, and GD&T symbols.
- Conduct, interpret and drive actions of APQP and process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA).
- Develop inspection planning to ensure all critical characteristics are accounted for throughout the manufacturing process.
- Utilize capability studies, Measurement System Analyses, and other tools to determine appropriate inspection techniques / methodologies.
- Investigate / drive root cause and corrective action on manufacturing nonconformities, customer complaints, and internal / external audit findings.
- Conduct internal audits against documented process requirements and assist in the completion of external audits as required.
- Work with external customers on parts discrepancy verification and parts submittals to NCR process.
- The employee will be responsible for handling sensitive information in accordance with all applicable security standards, guidelines, and company policies
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent (Other Engineering disciplines may be considered).
- Black or Green belt certification preferred.
- Experience Required: Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a Quality Engineer in Aerospace or Automotive
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED

- Working knowledge of AS9100, AS13100, or IATF 16949 Quality Management System Requirements
- Experience with the implementation and maintenance of AS9100, AS13100, or IATF 16949 Quality Management System Requirements
- Experience with Product Realization requirements to include the interpretation, implementation, and maintenance of customer requirements, industry codes and standards, and government regulations.
- Experience with implementation and maintenance of APQP.
- Extensive experience with Root Cause and Corrective Action using the 8D and 5 Why methods for problem solving.
- Experience with performing statistical analysis for identifying and implementing continuous improvement actions.
- Experience with Material Review Board (MRB) evaluations and submittals for customer disposition.
- Experience with daily interactions with customers (internal and external).
- Experience with the Implementation and maintenance of Gage R&R programs.
- Experience with providing training to customer requirements, industry codes / standards, and government regulations.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing Principles.
- Experience with New Product Development.
- Experience with the review and investigation of customer complaints.
- Experience with performing internal audits to customer requirements, industry codes or standards, and government regulations. Certified AS9100 or AS13100 Internal Auditor certification preferred.
- Experience with ISO 17025 standard requirements for calibration.
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
- Experience with conflict resolution.
- Experience with leading project teams.
- Ability to work independently while meeting goal and task deadlines.
