Job summary

Canadian Solar's e-STORAGE unit seeks a Senior Project Engineer to support utility-scale battery energy storage projects across North America. Working within a cross-functional project team, you will oversee engineering activities from design development through construction and commissioning, serving as the primary technical point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of project engineering, systems engineering, or related experience supporting energy, power, or electrical infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, cable sizing, short-circuit and load-flow analysis, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studies.
  • Experience reviewing designs, drawings, specs, and project docs to identify gaps and resolve issues.
  • Familiarity with grid-interconnection requirements and standards such as UL, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, and NERC; regional market requirements.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% within Canada and the United States; coordinating with EPCs, suppliers, and consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee technical execution of utility-scale battery storage projects from design through commissioning.
  • Serve as the primary technical contact for requests, coordination, and project support.
  • Manage scope, schedules, stakeholders, and deliverables to ensure project success.
  • Review engineering designs and documentation; coordinate with suppliers, consultants, and contractors to close gaps.

Working within a cross-functional project team, you will oversee engineering activities from design development through construction and commissioning, serving as the primary technical point of contact throughout the project lifecycle.This is a high-ownership role requiring strong electrical engineering knowledge, sound technical judgment, and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams, engineering consultants, suppliers, EPC contractors, and other key stakeholders. The position involves up to 25% travel within Canada and the United States to support design verification, construction inspections, and the resolution of project-specific technical issues.Responsibilities:Oversee the technical execution of utility-scale battery storage projects from design development through construction and commissioningServe as the primary project point of contact for technical requests, engineering coordination, and project supportManage technical scope, engineering schedules, project stakeholders, and deliverables to support successful project executionDevelop technical specifications and support vendor reviews, supplier qualification, testing, and commissioning activitiesSupport procurement and tendering activities by preparing technical requirements, coordinating supplier information, maintaining technical Q&A logs, and evaluating EPC bidder proposalsManage external engineering consultants and lead technical coordination and design-review meetingsReview and coordinate engineering designs and technical documentation from suppliers, consultants, and contractors, identifying gaps and driving the timely resolution of commentsCoordinate multidisciplinary engineering requirements across electrical, civil, structural, mechanical, controls, and balance-of-plant systemsReview Factory Acceptance Test procedures and reports to confirm compliance with project requirementsConduct site visits to verify that construction and installation activities align with approved designs, drawings, specifications, and quality expectationsProvide technical support during construction and commissioning, helping resolve design, installation, and project-execution issuesRequired Qualifications and Skills:An educational background in in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experienceAt least five years of project engineering, systems engineering, or related technical experience supporting complex energy, power, or electrical infrastructure projectsStrong knowledge of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, including cable sizing, short-circuit and load-flow analysis, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studiesDemonstrated experience reviewing engineering designs, drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation to identify gaps and resolve technical issuesWorking knowledge of grid-interconnection requirements and applicable renewable energy and energy storage codes and standards, including UL, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, NERC, and relevant regional market requirementsExperience supporting procurement and technical bid evaluations for major electrical equipment such as inverters, transformers, and switchgearAbility to travel up to 25% within Canada and the United States, including occasional multi-day site visitsFamiliarity with EMS, SCADA, PPCs, PLCs, IT/OT networks, communication protocols, and related control systems is considered an assetKnowledge of balance-of-plant systems, including UPS systems, fire detection and suppression, HVAC, and auxiliary electrical systems, is considered an assete-STORAGE is Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
