Job summary

Canadian Solar is seeking a Project Engineer for its e-STORAGE division to drive utility-scale battery energy storage projects across North America. You will coordinate engineering activities from design development through construction and commissioning, interfacing with internal teams, consultants, suppliers, and EPC contractors.

The role requires an electrical engineering background, 2+ years of project engineering experience, and travel up to 25% within North America.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate technical execution of utility-scale battery storage projects from design through commissioning.
  • Act as technical point of contact, coordinating requests and escalating complex issues.
  • Manage technical scope, schedules, stakeholders, and deliverables for project success.
  • Review technical specs, support vendor reviews, and assist with commissioning tests.
  • Visit sites to verify construction aligns with designs and quality expectations.

Working within a cross-functional project team, you will coordinate engineering activities from design development through construction and commissioning, collaborating with internal teams, engineering consultants, suppliers, EPC contractors, and other key stakeholders.This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a solid electrical foundation to develop deeper expertise within the rapidly growing battery energy storage industry while taking meaningful ownership of assigned project activities. The position involves up to 25% travel within Canada and the United States to support design verification, construction inspections, and the resolution of project-specific technical issues.Responsibilities:Coordinate the technical execution of utility-scale battery storage projects from design development through construction and commissioningAct as a technical point of contact for assigned projects, coordinating requests and escalating complex issues when requiredManage assigned technical scope, engineering schedules, project stakeholders, and deliverables to support successful project executionDevelop and review technical specifications and support vendor reviews, supplier qualification, testing, and commissioning activitiesSupport procurement and tendering activities by preparing technical requirements, coordinating supplier information, maintaining technical Q&A logs, and reviewing EPC bidder proposalsCoordinate external engineering consultants and support technical coordination and design-review meetingsReview and coordinate engineering designs and technical documentation from suppliers, consultants, and contractors, identifying gaps and supporting the timely resolution of commentsConduct site visits to verify that construction and installation activities align with approved designs, drawings, specifications, and quality expectationsProvide technical support during construction and commissioning, assisting with the resolution of design, installation, and project-execution issuesReview Factory Acceptance Test procedures and reports to confirm alignment with project requirementsRequired Qualifications and Skills:An educational background in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant technical experienceAt least two years of project engineering, systems engineering, or related technical experience, ideally supporting utility-scale energy, power, or electrical infrastructure projectsGeneral understanding of low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, including electrical installation design, cable sizing, short-circuit and load-flow analysis, protective-device coordination, and arc-flash studiesAbility to interpret and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, and project documentationGeneral knowledge of grid-interconnection requirements and applicable renewable energy and energy storage codes and standards, including UL, NFPA, IEEE, NETA, NERC, and relevant regional market requirementsAbility to travel up to 25% within Canada and the United States, including occasional multi-day site visitsExperience with utility-scale battery energy storage systems, lithium-ion battery technology, medium-voltage substations, or renewable energy projects is considered an assetKnowledge of balance-of-plant systems, including UPS systems, fire detection and suppression, HVAC, and auxiliary electrical systems, is considered an assete-STORAGE is Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
