Job Overview:

The Sr. Product Developer will collaborate with the Innovation & Marketing team to conceptualize new products and oversee the commissioning of new production lines for installation in our bakeries. The role involves developing new products or improving existing ones to meet customer expectations effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead innovation projects for the assigned plant, coordinating with Engineering, Marketing, Production, QA, Purchasing, and Supply Chain departments.
  2. Formulate, scale, bake, and package lab and customer samples; maintain TVC & PDS records for formulations, accurate costing, and Critical to Quality Points.
  3. Prepare TVCs to share costs and product data within the department.
  4. Contribute to Project Charters and support Capitol projects.
  5. Participate in FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests) and conduct SATs (Site Acceptance Tests) for CapEx projects.
  6. Record accurate formula data, including recipes, methodology, deposit weights, and baking losses, translating test kitchen trials to the plant floor.
  7. Ensure formulas are scaled appropriately for ingredient pack sizes.
  8. Develop new product innovations and line extensions through to commercialization.
  9. Lead plant trials and FPRs, maintaining detailed records on outcomes, labor, and production suitability.
  10. Sign off on lab and customer samples; maintain TVCs for formulations, costing, and quality points.
  11. Provide technical product details for presentations and updates on trials and installations.
  12. Manage personal project load, adapting to workload changes.
  13. Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned product categories.
  14. Develop new products based on sales, marketing suggestions, or independent initiatives.
  15. Identify improvements and recommend upgrades to meet evolving business needs.
  16. Hold regular meetings to discuss new ideas and issues.
  17. Adhere to SQF and HACCP policies.
  18. Troubleshoot to ensure product success.
Recipe for Success:
  1. Completion of college/university diploma in Food Science or a related field.
  2. At least 6 years of experience in the food manufacturing industry.
  3. Minimum 6 years of experience in product development.
  4. Preferred: university degree in Nutrition, Food Science, or related field.
  5. Certification in Food Labelling or Food Law.
  6. Comprehensive understanding of bakery ingredients, production processes, and equipment.
  7. Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, GFSI standards, and food allergens.
  8. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  9. Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  10. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate.
  11. Ability to work independently and in teams.
  12. Strong attention to detail.
  13. Mentorship and coaching abilities for interns and junior staff.
  14. Understanding of urgency in internal and external communications.
