Senior Payroll And Benefits Specialist

Onsite - Oakville, Ontario

$75,000 - $85,000 per year

About the Role:

Our client is currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll and Benefits Specialist to oversee payroll operations and benefits administration across multiple provinces. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, knowledgeable in employment legislation, and passionate about delivering exceptional service to internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Administration

  • Manage full-cycle payroll processing for salaried, hourly, and unionized employees across various jurisdictions.
  • Ensure payroll compliance with federal and provincial employment standards and tax regulations.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records accurately within the payroll/HRIS system.
  • Process statutory holiday pay, bonuses, commissions, and terminations in accordance with applicable laws.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare month-end and year-end reporting, including T4s, ROEs, and WSIB submissions.

Benefits Administration

  • Oversee the administration of group benefit plans including health, dental, life, and disability coverage.
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, brokers, and internal teams on plan updates, enrollments, and claims.
  • Facilitate open enrollment processes and ensure timely processing of benefit changes due to life events.
  • Ensure compliance with related legislation and company policies.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Submit government remittances and prepare reports such as EHT, T2200s, and PD7As.
  • Maintain records and schedules for union dues and other payroll-related deductions.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and reconciliations.
  • Stay informed on legislative changes impacting payroll and benefits.

Employee Support & Process Improvement

  • Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll and benefits with clarity and professionalism.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to payroll and benefits processes to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist in developing internal documentation or training materials on payroll and benefits topics.

Qualifications:

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification required.
  • 5+ years of experience in Canadian payroll and benefits administration.
  • Experience managing multi-province and unionized payrolls is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a senior or lead payroll role.
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., Payworks, ADP, Ceridian) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • High attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
