Job summary

Cognizant in Toronto is seeking a Senior Java Developer to design, build, and maintain scalable Java applications for enterprise banking solutions. You will collaborate with architects, developers, QA, DevOps, and client stakeholders to deliver reliable technology outcomes.

The role emphasizes microservices, RESTful APIs, Kafka, Docker/Kubernetes, and cloud/CI-CD practices. Hybrid work requires three days a week in a client office in Toronto, Ontario.

Qualifications

• 9+ years of leading the team and hands-on experience in Java, Java/J2EE, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Kafka, MongoDB.
• Strong expertise in Microservices architecture building scalable distributed applications.
• Proficiency in MongoDB, SQL DB for database design, stored procedures, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, API gateways, and authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT).
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
• Experience in unit testing, integration testing, and automation frameworks.

About the role

As a Senior Java Developer, you will make an impact by designing and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing Java applications for enterprise banking solutions. You will be a valued member of the Digital Engineering team and work collaboratively with architects, developers, quality engineering, DevOps, and client stakeholders to deliver reliable technology outcomes.

In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance applications using Java, Java/J2EE, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot.
• Build microservices and RESTful APIs that integrate effectively across distributed enterprise systems.
• Develop event-driven solutions using Kafka and work with MongoDB and SQL databases to support reliable data processing.
• Contribute to cloud deployment strategies, containerized environments, and CI/CD pipelines that improve release quality and delivery speed.
• Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, automated testing, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and adherence to secure coding and design standards.
• Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders, provide guidance to team members, and support delivery across the software development lifecycle.

What you need to have to be considered:

• Overall 9+ years of Leading the team and hands‑on experience in Java, Java/J2EE, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Kafka, Mongo DB.
• Strong expertise in Microservices architecture building scalable distributed applications.
• Proficiency in MongoDB, SQL DB for database design, stored procedures, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, API gateways, and authentication mechanisms (OAuth, JWT, etc.)

Salary and compensation:

The annual salary for this position will be between 74,000 CAD to 117,500 CAD per year depending on the experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program and stock awards, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
