• Write clean maintainable and well-structured Java code with comprehensive JUnit5 test coverage to ensure predictable behavior ease of refactoring and reduced production defects.
• Create efficient SQL queries views and stored logic to support transactional workloads and analytics while preserving data integrity performance and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with product owners and architects to refine requirements into clear technical designs that balance feasibility maintainability and long-term business value.
• Optimize application performance by analyzing logs metrics and database execution plans to resolve bottlenecks and enhance overall system responsiveness.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming, with experience designing clean, maintainable, and scalable backend solutions.
• Possess practical experience designing and building microservices using Spring Boot and core Spring Framework components.
• Have hands-on experience with Kafka, including configuration, topic design, producers, consumers, event processing, and resilient messaging patterns.
• Apply strong knowledge of multithreading and concurrency in Java, including thread synchronization, executor services, thread safety, and concurrent collections.
• Show advanced skill in writing optimized SQL for relational databases, including query tuning and indexing strategies for high-volume financial transactions.
• Exhibit familiarity with JUnit 5 testing patterns, including unit, integration, and component testing.
• Understand microservices principles such as service boundaries, fault tolerance, scalability, and observability.
• Utilize Spring features including dependency injection, data-access abstractions, and security modules.
• Bring exposure to cards and payments concepts such as authorization, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Communicate effectively in a hybrid work environment through structured updates and digital collaboration tools.

Salary And Other Compensation

We regularly assess market data to ensure we offer a competitive compensation package for our associates. The base salary for this position ranges between $115,500 – $135,500 per year. Where the successful candidate may fall within the range depends on relevant education, work and/or management experience and other business-related and job-necessary qualifications. This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual performance-based bonus, as well as benefits that support your physical, mental and financial wellbeing.

Working arrangements

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is a hybrid position requiring 2 days a week in a client office in Toronto, ON.
