Job summary

Aecon Utilities is seeking a Senior Estimator (Transmission) to accurately estimate labour, equipment and materials for transmission construction projects across Canada. You will be responsible for direction, preparation and documentation of estimates and tender submissions.

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, you will analyze documents, price inputs, coordinate with Operations and Owners staff, and ensure compliant, complete tender packages.

Qualifications

  • Diploma / Degree in Civil, Construction, Electrical or Business.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in Estimating / Operations in Transmission Hydro Infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Strong computer skills including MS Excel, Word, Project and estimating software.
  • Self motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Willingness to travel and valid driver's license.
  • Professional designation (P.Eng., CET, CTech) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of projects awarded.
  • Analyze documents, specifications, proposals, addendums for pricing.
  • Perform estimate-related communications with clients.
  • Review project site prior to price preparation.
  • Collaborate with Operations, PMO and Owners staff as appropriate.
  • Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  • Perform quantity take-off from construction drawings where applicable.
  • Obtain pricing from Suppliers / Subcontractors and incorporate into estimate.
  • Formulate all costs for tender submission - labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontracts.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
  • Oversee distribution of documentation after award.
  • Manage Scope Change pricing as required.
  • Maintain files and correspondence on active and completed projects.
  • Provide technical support to field staff as appropriate.
  • Drive Estimating process / procedure compliance and consistency.
  • Conduct Bid Handover meetings as required.
  • Assist with Prequalification, RFQs and RFI submissions as required.
  • Comply with Aecon's risk management policies and procedures.
  • Foster relationships with Clients, Consultants, and key Subcontractors.
  • Protect proprietary information.
  • Maintain Estimating data systems up to date.
  • Assist in training of new Estimating staff as appropriate.
  • Able to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Promote inclusive culture and belonging.

Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Senior Estimator (Transmission) will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost of labour, equipment and materials for supply and installation, as well as accountability for the direction, preparation and documentation of work completion estimates for Transmission construction projects.

We're open to someone based in any of our offices across Canada, including Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Abbottsford.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Reviewing project site prior to price preparation.

What You Bring to the Team:
  • Diploma / Degree-Civil / Construction / Electrical / Business
  • Minimum 10 years experience Estimating / Operational experience in Transmission Hydro Infrastructure
  • Understanding of affiliated electrical systems an asset.
  • Construction site experience considered an asset
  • Skills allow for working independently with little supervision
  • Prior operational experience an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Thorough knowledge of contract language / Terms and Conditions / Bonding etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of associated Trades labour agreements / working rules
  • Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and accounting / reporting.
  • Self motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills - MS Excel / Word / Project and estimating software
  • Strong communication skills - oral and written.
  • Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure.
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others as a team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
  • Professional designation an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T., CTech)
