Job description

Position Summary

Reporting to the VP Engineering & Integrity, the Senior Engineer, Business Development is responsible for identifying, developing, and advancing strategic business opportunities and projects that support organizational growth and operational objectives. The role combines project management expertise with business development leadership, stakeholder engagement, commercial strategy, and cross‑functional coordination to support the Engineering & Integrity on the Pre‑FEED, FEED and design activities on prospective pipeline, system optimization and station automation projects in TNPI’s Eastern Canada pipeline systems. These projects are currently in early development phase and are being negotiated as business opportunities between TNPI and its shippers. The Senior Engineer, Business Development moves initiatives from concept toward execution and works closely with internal departments, external partners, regulators, contractors, and senior leadership to develop business cases, manage project delivery, and support long‑term strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify, assess, and advance business growth opportunities, partnerships, and expansion projects.
  • Evaluate project feasibility, economics, risks, and return on investment.
  • Develop innovative and cost‑effective solutions that support business objectives.
  • Support commercial activities including proposals, shipper engagement, contract negotiations, and stakeholder agreements.
  • Manage engineering studies, consultants, and technical assessments to define project scope, costs, schedules, and execution strategies.
  • Ensure projects are developed in accordance with project delivery frameworks and organizational standards.
  • Oversee project risks, technical challenges, and mitigation plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, external partners, regulators, municipalities, and industry stakeholders.
  • Coordinate across business units to align project objectives, operational requirements, and strategic priorities.
  • Facilitate executive presentations, project updates, and decision‑making discussions.
  • Assess project economics, capital estimates, budgets, forecasts, and resource requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate risks that may impact project viability, schedule, cost, or performance.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure delivery against business, safety, regulatory, and financial objectives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to project team members.
  • Promote risk‑based decision‑making, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Incorporate lessons learned and best practices into project development and execution.
  • Contribute to project governance, standards development, and organizational change initiatives.
Qualifications

Must‑haves (minimum requirements):

  • 15 years of experience in related fields (Engineering).
  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng) in chemical or mechanical.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registered with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle management and commercial/business principles.
  • Strong project leadership capabilities.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Professionalism in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
  • Strong financial and analytical capabilities.
  • Sound judgment and strong decision‑making abilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.

Preference for:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • 20 years of experience in related fields.
  • PMP Certification.
  • Pipeline integrity experience.
  • Project economic experience.
  • Commercial and Business experience.
Working Conditions and Benefits
  • This position is primarily based out of our Richmond Hill office at 310–45 Vogell Road, with flexibility to be based out of our Calgary office at 109–5305 McCall Way NE.
  • Primarily office‑based, with the majority of work performed in an office environment.
