Job Overview

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Senior Data Scientist to join our team. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for building enterprise-scale, cloud-native, AI systems that leverage state-of-the-art data science practices.

The Sr Data Scientist will work collaboratively with peers to design AI/ML models, algorithms, and experiments that will drive business value. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the current AI landscape, including demonstrated experience leveraging and fine-tuning Large Language Models, developing solutions using Gen AI, as well as contributing toward building an End-to-End LLMOps.

What You’ll Do

1. Develop and implement robust AI solutions
2. Run projects to drive business growth
3. Conduct research to determine viable paths for AI product services, factoring in cost analysis and accuracy results.
4. Participate in architectural design, hands-on development, and collaborative deployment of cloud-native AI solutions that are efficient and scalable.
5. Lead initiatives within the team and across teams to identify, prioritize, and address critical needs, challenges, and opportunities
6. Conduct model research and options analysis to prepare potential solutions for evaluation and recommendation
7. Make recommendations while balancing tradeoffs between short-term and long-term goals
8. Provide comprehensive feedback in design reviews, code reviews, and data analysis
9. Contribute to the end-to-end AI processes from data acquisition, data processing and validation, model training or algorithm design, robust experience in testing, to familiarity with deployment
10. Ensure the quality and accuracy of models by applying data and AI best practices, conducting thorough testing, and working collaboratively with the team for maintenance of AI services

What You’ll Need to Succeed

Your experience should include some or all of the following:

1. 5+ years of experience in data science / mathematics & stats / ML / AI engineering roles of increasing complexity
2. Experience in developing AI models using Python / Golang or other related programming languages
3. Experience optimizing Natural Language Processing or Computer Vision models for specialized tasks
4. Experience with deep learning frameworks such as Tensorflow, Keras, or PyTorch
5. Experience with vector databases such as ChromaDB, ElasticSearch
6. Experience building a RAG model
7. Experience with Gen AI services in a native cloud service
8. Demonstrated experience supporting all phases of an AI model’s lifecycle
9. Demonstrated experience in cloud-native technologies, including cloud computing, distributed computing, data warehousing, and big data processing
10. Proven track record of effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality AI solutions
11. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
12. Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal guidance, and balance multiple projects simultaneously
13. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively to derive effective solutions to complex challenges
14. Degree in computer science, math, statistics, data science, engineering, or a related field
