Job summary

Specialisterne is recruiting for a Sr. Analyst, AML in Toronto, with a hybrid work arrangement. The role sits in CIBC's Financial Intelligence Unit and focuses on investigations, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment.

You will liaise with multiple business units, access internal systems, and support the development and implementation of AML strategies to mitigate risk. Target start date is September 2026.

Qualifications

  • Familiar with anti-money laundering concepts.
  • Experience with consumer regulatory/compliance requirements, policies, procedures and methodologies.
  • Basic banking knowledge on products and services.
  • Knowledge of AML and terrorist financing framework.
  • Certifications in AML are a plus; systems knowledge (COINS, ECIF, SWIFT, PRM, PostEdge, WorldCheck) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth investigative activities on unusual transactions or events that may relate to money laundering or terrorist financing.
  • Identify high risk client relationships and assess related information.
  • Gather, organize and interpret data to support preliminary conclusions.
  • Report unusual activities to the relevant AML/TF reporting center.
  • Stay current on laws and regulatory requirements and advise accordingly.

Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid (Twice per month at present, may be more frequent in the future)

Salary Range: $66,090-72,000

About this Role:

You’ll be joining our Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Investigations Team. You'll provide timely and proactive advice and independent oversight of CIBC's compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. As the Sr. Analyst, AML you'll be responsible for liaising with businesses across the enterprise and accessing various internal systems, in order to obtain supporting information and/or documentation in order to support your recommended investigation outcome. You'll assist in the design, development, and implementation of strategies to mitigate AML risks, enterprise-wide based on the financial intelligence gathered through internal and external sources.

Essential Tasks - In this job, you will:
  • Conduct in-depth investigative activities on unusual transactions or events received from CIBC business units, branches, or TMS that may relate to money laundering or terrorist financing.
  • Identify, perform analysis, and assess client information to identify potential high risk client relationships such as cash-intensive businesses and individuals, politically exposed persons and non-residents, client holdings and activity.
  • Gather, organize and interpret data and/or information, and formulate preliminary conclusions with limited oversight.
  • Report unusual transactions or activities to the appropriate money laundering and/or terrorist financing reporting center.
  • Research new and pending laws, regulations, and industry commitments ensuring that relevant issues and organizational risks are identified.
  • Provide timely and ongoing identification, risk assessment, and communication of changing regulatory requirements.
  • Work with business management to establish an appropriate regulatory compliance culture and help the business to ensure that compliance risk and control processes are effective and cost-efficient.
  • Consult, oversee, and monitor resolution if complex or contentious regulatory compliance issues.

Education/Knowledge - You are:
  • Familiar with anti-money laundering knowledge and concepts.
  • Familiar with CIBC's organization.
  • Basic banking knowledge on products and services.
  • Experience with consumer related regulatory/compliance requirements, policies, procedures and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Anti-money Laundering and terrorist financing framework.
  • Experience in dealing with a wide variety of payments types and transactions types.
  • Nice to have (but not required):
    • Certifications in Anti-Money Laundering.
    • Systems/application knowledge of COINS, ECIF, SWIFT, PRM, PostEdge, WorldCheck, etc.
