Job description

Join to apply for the SQL Server Client, Manager role at Sun Life.

The Manager of SQL Server Client, reporting to the Director, SQL Server Databases of Data Management Services (DMS), will provide support and management of SQL Server and Sybase databases, leading a team of SQL Server DBAs. This role involves co-leading a dynamic multi-platform environment, supporting enterprise-wide distributed database platforms, and aligning with strategic design and delivery of database technologies.

The position requires management support capabilities, technology trend identification, regulatory compliance, and vendor relations.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Mentoring and managing a team of SQL Server database administrators supporting client applications and projects.
  2. Knowledge of SQL Server Engine, Data Management, and Business Intelligence tools (SSIS, SSMS, SSRS, SSAS) for SQL 2016 or greater.
  3. Participating in performance reviews and supporting staff career development.
  4. Supporting the management and support of mission-critical SQL Server and Sybase applications, including performance tuning and capacity monitoring.
  5. Collaborating with architects and infrastructure teams for strategy refinement and architectural projects.
  6. Leading crisis management, business continuity, disaster recovery, and incident response efforts.
  7. Ensuring compliance with security and audit policies.
  8. Working with various functional areas to support database requirements.
  9. Participating in budget planning related to database services.
  10. Delivering database solutions in partnership with application owners.
  11. Engaging with business leaders to leverage new database technologies.
  12. Supporting database activities that enhance reporting and data integrity without impacting performance.
Qualifications include:
  • Expertise in SQL Server and Sybase database technologies.
  • Strong leadership, management, and communication skills.
  • Experience with performance evaluations and Agile/Waterfall methodologies.
  • Knowledge of DevOps tools like Ansible, Jenkins.
  • Ability to build relationships across management levels.
  • Self-motivated, strategic, and innovative thinker.

The salary range is $84,000 to $138,000, with additional incentive plans based on performance.
